Theplanning area serves as a major transportation corridor taking goods and people in and out of theLos Angeles and Kern County metropolitan areas. With the completion of the Alameda Corridorthe movement of goods is expected to continue to increase. Relatively inexpensive housing andthe rural lifestyle of the planning area make commuting into the more populated coastal areaattractive for many residents. This trend is expected to continue with the large increase inpopulation that is expected. The planning area has a number of different means of transportationand these systems have been developed to connect farm/industrial/commercial centers to cities,and cities to communities within the County and state, and in other states and other nations.State System - California Department of Transportation (Caltrans): The State ofCalifornia has established a series of state-constructed and maintained routes in accordance withChapter 3 3-253
