Demonstrations <strong>of</strong> quick <strong>and</strong> effectivewoodworking techniques with a variety <strong>of</strong>woods, <strong>paint</strong>s <strong>and</strong> tools will be accompaniedby ample work time. Afterattending the Rhode Isl<strong>and</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Design’s FurnitureDesign Program he began working as a wooden boat builder.Traveling the east coast restoring historic ships, as well asbuilding new boats became a passion which he did alongside <strong>of</strong> teaching boat building at a school in Maine. Billycame to Portl<strong>and</strong> in 2010 to attend <strong>Oregon</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong><strong>and</strong> <strong>Craft</strong>. Since earning a MFA through the joint OCAC/PNCA Applied <strong>Craft</strong> <strong>and</strong> Design program, he has beenteaching in the Jordan Schnitzer Family <strong>Art</strong> Adventureswoodworking program.ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCEPROGRAMEach fall <strong>and</strong> spring semester, the <strong>College</strong> hosts two artists fora residency. This academic year’s residents are in the fields <strong>of</strong>ceramics, drawing <strong>and</strong> <strong>paint</strong>ing, metals <strong>and</strong> wood. The OCAC<strong>Art</strong>ist-in-Residence program <strong>of</strong>fers emerging artists <strong>of</strong> greatpromise <strong>and</strong> successful practice the time <strong>and</strong> space to concentrateon a particular project, further explore their art <strong>and</strong>exchange ideas <strong>and</strong> techniques with the arts community in thePacific Northwest. The <strong>Art</strong>ist-in-Residence program is supportedthrough a generous grant from the Collins Foundation.Adrien SegalMs. Segal has embarked upon a body <strong>of</strong> sculptural work thattranslates data from the likes <strong>of</strong> the US Geological Survey intotangible forms in wood, metal <strong>and</strong> other materials. Of particularinterest to her in the Pacific Northwest is the eco-system <strong>of</strong> theColumbia River <strong>and</strong> its alteration by humans. Ms. Segal receiveda BFA in Woodworking <strong>and</strong> Furniture Design from the California<strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Art</strong>s in San Francisco, California. Her work hasbeen exhibited on the West Coast <strong>and</strong> Mexico.“I <strong>make</strong> sculpture as a means to communicate data <strong>and</strong> statisticalinformation about the intersection <strong>of</strong> humans <strong>and</strong> the naturalworld….
