STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICESIf my child is referred, what are the steps these teams willtake to meet my child’s needs?The SIT and SST teams go through the Problem-Solving Processin identifying and meeting each student’s needs. These steps arelisted below in the order they are implemented to include:Step 1Problem Identification – The team reviews background informationin the area of concern (such as grade reports, student worksamples, attendance records, health reports, and/or disciplinereferrals) to identify and fully define the concern(s). The teamgathers information to chart additional information about theconcern such as, the time of day of the concern, the activity duringwhich the behavior is usually shown and/or the duration of theconcern.Step 2Establish Goals of Intervention – The team clearly defines the goals(expectations) in ways that can be tracked.Where can I learn more about Proactive Student ServicesInterventions?<strong>Prince</strong> George’s <strong>County</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>School</strong>s currently maintains anadministrative procedure named Proactive Student ServicesInterventions (AP 5124) which can be found on the <strong>Prince</strong> George’s<strong>County</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>School</strong>s website at www.pgcps.org under the parentsection within the Administrative Policies and Procedures section.You may access this administrative procedure directly by enteringthis internet address: http://www.pgcps.org/~procedur/5000/5124.pdf.Please contact your child’s school counselor, classroom teacher, oradministrator for more information or further explanation. You mayalso contact central offices of team members represented on theteam to include the following:• Office of Health Services - 301-749-7422• Office of Pupil Personnel Services (PPWs) - 301-952-6384• Office of Psychological Services - 301-431-5630• Office of <strong>School</strong> Counseling - 301-567-8669Step 3Develop Intervention – The team develops a clearly outlinedintervention plan to address the student’s academic and/orbehavioral and/or health need(s).Step 4Implement Intervention – The team implements the interventions asplanned.Step 5Monitor Progress – The team monitors progress towards thegoals by reviewing data such as the student’s work samples andgrades, behavior and/or attendance reports and/or team memberobservations and reports. The student’s improvements and/or challenges are recorded and depending on the progress inresponse to the interventions, the plan is revised and next steps willbe determined.50
