‘This is us’…
and this day is all ‘For US’
The Monday afternoon of 13 December
2010 was indeed a day to remember.
The theme “This is Us… and This Day is
All For Us” meant the day was solely dedicated
to US, Team Scomi. Since the day was made for
US, we came to the office feeling carefree, with
hardly any worries and dressed in our most
comfortable, casual attire.
The day started with the Green House
team’s first ever Project Pyramid initiative.
Calling themselves the Green Fairies and
Elves, this team who believes in the secret
of enriching employees’ lives, offered US a
free 10-minute foot or shoulder massage
at their ‘spa’. It was a great way for US to
treat ourselves to a little pampering after
running around over the weekend.
That afternoon, the 18th floor staff lounge
at 1 First Avenue was abuzz with activity.
The room looked splendid with touches of
decoration and the atmosphere screamed
liveliness and I am happy to report that the
party delivered exactly that!
We had it different this time with the organiser
bringing food stalls to our doorstep! We were
spoilt for choice with the mouth-watering food
that was prepared with kebabs from the famous
Middle Eastern and Yemini cuisine Hadramawt
to the famous 1901 hotdogs. There were also
night market favourites like Apam Balik and Putu
Bambu. Not forgetting the Iddiyappam or Putu
Mayam, a South Indian dish that was served.
There was really no reason for employees to go
home hungry that evening. The 1901 hotdogs
were especially a hit. Turns out Scomi staff are
true fast food fans!

What added to the liveliness of the whole
afternoon were the six great performances
by Team Scomi. Kudos to all who took part in
the performances! From dancing and singing,
we were truly entertained watching our
colleagues showing off their hidden talents
in their awe-inspiring performances. It was
indeed good fun.
The audience went wild when the “Star” of the
day, Syahril Abd Jalil, Senior Manager Legal &
Corporate Secretarial SOL swept everyone away
when he emerged as the famous showgirl Lola,
who had lost her mind. Dressed in a party gown,
a wig and feathers Syahril got all of us screaming
with laughter.
The event accomplished its objective to live,
to work and to have fun. It has allowed US to
enhance our creativity, talent and to learn the
thrill of discovering and realising our potential.
The gathering kept US engaged, involved and
connected with one another.
Hearty congratulations go out to the
Group Human Resource Department for
organising the gathering. Truly their efforts
succeeded in bringing US together at
Scomi. It was great to see so many happy
faces that afternoon smiling and bonding
together. All of US had a joyous time as it
definitely was a much-needed break from
the stress of work.
