Influence is perhaps best understood as the extent towhich people, groups or organizations (i.e. stakeholders) are able to persuade or coerce others into making decisions, andfollow certain courses of action.Importance indicates the priority given by you to satisfying stakeholders’ needs and interests through the project. 2.4EXERCISESHEET2.4STAKEHOLDER CLARIFICATIONTOOLWhat is it?The Stakeholder Clarification Tool guides the documentation of allthe risks associated with a problem/issue/policy/plan/project andassists in determining the degree of probability of a risk occurringand the extent of the impact.Who uses it?An individual or group – preferably done with a small group.Why use it?To determine the best course of action to take given the prioritiesdiagnosed.How to use it:• Explain the objective of the exercise to the group.• Using the rating scores applied in Exercise Sheet 2.3 for‘influence’ and ‘importance’ place the number of thestakeholder in the appropriate quadrant e.g. if stakeholdernumber 1 rated 5 importance and 2 influence they wouldbe placed as shown below. If stakeholder number 2 rated2 importance and 4 influence they would be placed asshown.
