Industry experienceWe have developed a range of links withindustry in <strong>the</strong> areas of <strong>the</strong>atre design, propmaking, scenography, costume design andmedia production.How this course is taughtWorking alongside creative practitioners froma variety of different design backgrounds,you receive specialist tuition through acombination of lectures, seminars, workshopsand tutorials. You are expected to present yourwork in progress regularly at <strong>for</strong>mal reviews.The emphasis is placed on personal developmentthrough <strong>the</strong> production of your design project.How this course is assessedAssessment includes evidence ofexperimentation and research in <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>mof design proposals, reviews, presentations,exhibitions of work, reflective journals andwritten papers.FacilitiesIn addition to a dedicated postgraduatebaseroom and <strong>University</strong> Library, specialistfacilities include:• Workshop facilities <strong>for</strong> working in ceramics,plastics, wood, metals and fabrics• Two extensive costume and fashion workshops• Access to studio spaces <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> installation,testing and review of large-scale project work• Rapid prototyping, 3D scanning andlaser cutting• Access to a range of design software includingAutoCAD, 3D Max, Autodesk Maya and Rhino.CareersOpportunities include set, costume and propmaking <strong>for</strong> an expansive field of per<strong>for</strong>mancesincluding:• Live and recorded work <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>atre, filmand television companies• Digital environments• Public installations• Site specific work• Community and commercial per<strong>for</strong>mances• Promotional activities such as concerts,catwalk shows and exhibitions.Typical entry requirements• A good Honours degree (normally 2:1 or above)or equivalent qualification in your chosen subjector a related discipline, and/or;• Relevant work experience, demonstrating yourability to study at postgraduate level• For English language requirements, seeEssential In<strong>for</strong>mation on <strong>page</strong> 63.PortfolioYou should have a creative portfolio whichincludes images of recent work and shows a cleardesign direction.
