Student profile Q&A<strong>UCA</strong> RochesterWhat made you decide to embark on a postgraduatecourse at <strong>UCA</strong>?Be<strong>for</strong>e I made my choice to apply to <strong>UCA</strong> I read about many MADesign courses programmes at different universities but <strong>the</strong>programme at <strong>UCA</strong> suited me best.What most attracted you to studying here?The creative arts title “<strong>University</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>” had avery powerful impact on me. It made me feel that <strong>the</strong> wholeuniversity is only concerned with creativity and nothing less. Inaddition to <strong>the</strong> good reputation it has in <strong>the</strong> artistic community,Rochester is very close to London.What did you set out to achieve during your time studyinghere?To improve my knowledge, being able to access a large quantityof academic references. I also wanted to challenge my secondlanguage skills in writing, reading and vocally presenting myresearch. I wished to create my own style of illustration andachieved this through <strong>the</strong> publication of two books <strong>for</strong> my finalproject - “Graphical Reality: Renovating Visual Figures”, whichpresents a variety of artwork combined with personal thoughtsexpressing <strong>the</strong> artwork verbally and “Graphic Design inConceptual Art & Illustration”, which is <strong>the</strong> academic andliterature research I completed during <strong>the</strong> year.Has <strong>the</strong> proximity to London been an advantage to you?Yes indeed, it was a great advantage. I was able to attend mostof <strong>the</strong> galleries or art events in London because I was very close;it took me only <strong>for</strong>ty minutes to get to central London!What have you been doing since graduation?I have had two exhibitions since graduation, in Rochester and inLondon, and I have sold many of my Masters project books. At<strong>the</strong> moment I am preparing <strong>for</strong> my next exhibition in Londonand <strong>the</strong> most important plan is to keep researching and apply <strong>for</strong>a PhD in <strong>the</strong> visual communication field.www.ucreative.ac.uk 59
