The accumulation ofpenalties (or demerits) can result in aloss of credit.• Lockers are free for students to use –however locks for the gym lockers mustbe supplied by the students andregistered with the Phys. Eddepartment.• The Phys. Ed department reserves theright to charge participation fees tostudents for any class activities doneoff-campus (eg. Bowling, golfing, etc).INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS AT <strong>SRSS</strong>:At the <strong>SRSS</strong>, we value student participation inour school community. Therefore, all studentswho attend the <strong>SRSS</strong> and who want toparticipate in MHSAA competition will competefor the <strong>SRSS</strong> in accordance with the provisionsset out in the MHSAA guidelines.An <strong>SRSS</strong> student can feel proud and honouredto represent his/her school in athleticcompetition. It only takes a second when onewalks into the <strong>SRSS</strong> gym to see the accolades<strong>SRSS</strong> students have brought to the school forover 30 years. All students at the <strong>SRSS</strong> areencouraged to try-out for a chance to representthe school.The <strong>SRSS</strong> competes at the AAAA level, thehighest level of high school competition.Our school also operates in two athletic zones(conferences).Zone 13 (Eastman) is the rural zone in which the<strong>SRSS</strong> competes in sports such as Soccer,Fastball, Badminton, Baseball, X-Country, Golfand Curling.Zone 2 (SCAC) is the urban zone in which the<strong>SRSS</strong> competes in Volleyball, Basketball andTrack & Field.SPORTS FEE SCHEDULE:A considerable amount of money is requiredannually to maintain the inter-scholastic sportsprogram over and above the facilities andtransportation provided by the Hanover SchoolDivision. Approximately half of this amount isprovided from general student fees. Theremainder is assessed to the students whoactually participate in the sports.- 64 -Students who play in the following competitiveactivities are assessed the fees as indicatedbelow. All athletes will complete a playercontract.• These fees are due before the firstgame of the season• No uniforms will be issued until the feeis paid• Some sports will require a uniformdeposit that will be refunded upon thereturn of the uniform to the P.E.Department• The athlete will not play until the fee ispaid in fullSPORT PARTICIPATION FEES:Varsity Volleyball/ Basketball: $120.00Junior Varsity Volleyball/ Basketball: $100.00Soccer: $50.00Football: Returning students - $325.00Football: New students - $375.00Other school sports (below):$15.00 to $50.00(Softball, Baseball, Badminton, Track & Field,Golf, Curling, X-country running)Additional costs may be incurred.Physical EducationPHE20FHealth EducationDept. of Ed. Code 0169-20F Credit: 1This course will be comprised of two parts:Physical Education (physical activity) and HealthEducation. The portion involving physical activitywill focus on categories such as sports andgames, alternative pursuits, rhythmic/gymnasticactivities and physical fitness activities.Health focuses on the following strands and substrands;safety of self/others, personaldevelopment, social development, mentalemotionaldevelopment, personal healthpractices, active living, nutrition, substanceuse/abuse prevention and human sexuality. Anintroductory CPR component is included in thecourse.• Health focus will be covered in aclassroom setting for the most part.• Physical education and fitness (physicalactivity) will be covered in a gymnasiumsetting.The course will focus on the general learningoutcomes of the physical education and healthcurriculum:• Movement• Fitness• Safety• Personal social management• Healthy lifestyle practices
