Sometimes SHP is refractory to conservativetherapy and parathyreoidectomy must be performed,regardless of treatment with active vitamin Dmetabolites and phosphate binders.Aim: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluateindications for parathyreoidectomy, parathyroidhistology and patients treatment outcome.Subjects and methods: The study included 14 patientswho have had parathyreoidectomy in the period of fiveyears. Parathyreoidectomy indications were high levelsof parathyroid hormone (PTH>800 pg/dL), affiliatedwith hyperphosphataemia, hypercalcaemia, refractoryto medical treatment and with clinical signs of SHP.Results: The study included 14 patients, eight femalesand six males, average age of 52,6 ± 7,21 years and averagehemodialysis length of 52,98±6,26 months.
