Oral presentationHISTOLOGICAL FINDINGS AND ALT LEVEL IN PATIENTSWITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS CZora Vukobrat-Bijedić, Azra Husić-Selimović, Bisera GogovGastroenterohepatology Department,University Hospital Sarajevo,Bosnia and HerzegovinaE- mail : husic_azra@yahoo.comBackground and Aims: Aim of this study was to investigatehistological findings in patients with normal andelevated ALT level in chronic hepatitis C.Methods: We investigated 54 males and 41 females, towhom were performed liver biopsies. Serum ALT leveland viral load was measured. Evaluation of pathohistologicalfindings were done by Knodell and METAVIRscores. Results: 27 patients ( 28%) had a normal ALT level, 68(72%) had elevated ALT level with mean value of 90,40IU/L. Among the patients with normal ALT, histologicalactivity (METAVIR) was: 7 (26%) had A1 score, 10( 37%) had A2 score, and 10 ( 37%) had A3. Fibrosisscore (F) was: 18 patients ( 67%) had F0-F1 and 9 (33%) had F2-F3. In the group with elevated ALT, theMETAVIR score were: A1 in 16 patients ( 24%), A2 in41 ( 60%), and A3 in 11 ( 16%).F0-F1 was found in 32patients ( 47%) and F2-F3 was in 36 ( 53%).Conclusion: In group with normal ALT level, necroinflammatoryactivity was increased in contrary to fibrosisgrade that was decreased. In a group with elevatedALT, fibrosis grade was increased opposite to necroinflammatoryactivities that was slightly decreased.Key words: chronic hepatitis C, alanine aminotransferase, histological activity49
