Part two: Continued.<strong>Engendering</strong> justice: roadmap for future reform➤<strong>The</strong> Criminal <strong>Justice</strong>System will providefemale victims withsupport, safety andjustice.<strong>The</strong> Commission has a vision of a criminaljustice system which is accountable <strong>to</strong> theneeds of victims with performance measured,not just by conviction rates, but also by thesupport, safety and satisfaction experienced byvictims. Effective and frequent communicationwill be maintained by the police and the CPSwith female victims and the court system willrespond <strong>to</strong> the needs of female victims andwitnesses with the consistent provision ofspecial measures and court listings which takein<strong>to</strong> account caring responsibilities. Victims willhave confidence in the system <strong>to</strong> meet theirneeds and support services will be closelylinked with the justice system <strong>to</strong> provideinformation and support throughout the justiceprocess. Support services will be available forall women, including those who choose not <strong>to</strong>report <strong>to</strong> the police or pursue legal processes.We will have worked <strong>to</strong>wards societalawareness as <strong>to</strong> the myths and stereotypessurrounding violence against women and publicawareness campaigns will have resulted in asociety which no longer condones violenceagainst women. Education on consent,respect and violence against women will bea compulsory requirement within the schoolcurriculum. <strong>The</strong>re will be recognition of violenceagainst women as a cause and consequence ofinequality and the Government will be activelyworking <strong>to</strong>wards the prevention and eliminationof all violence against women.Page 82
