I.T. – BTEC DIPLOMA LEVEL 2<br />

THE COURSE<br />

You will develop your knowledge and<br />

gain an understanding of I.T. and how<br />

it is used in industry and our everyday<br />

lives. You will learn a variety of the<br />

practical aspects of I.T. and about<br />

the I.T. industry itself.<br />

Your learning will include:<br />

• communicating in the I.T. industry<br />

• working in the I.T. industry<br />

• computer systems and software<br />

• setting up an I.T. network<br />

• computer graphics<br />

• developing computer games.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />

Four GCSE passes at grade D<br />

preferably with Mathematics and<br />

English. A Merit in a relevant<br />

Level 1 course.<br />

PROGRESSION<br />

I.T. is an essential skill for many 21st<br />

century job roles and there are many<br />

exciting employment opportunities<br />

available within the industry itself,<br />

from ICT sector professional to<br />

technicians to system designer and<br />

many more, plus further higher level<br />

learning for professional standards.<br />

COURSE DURATION<br />

1 year<br />

I.T. PRACTITIONERS –<br />

BTEC DIPLOMA LEVEL 3<br />

THE COURSE<br />

You will develop the knowledge and<br />

skills students need to be in<strong>form</strong>ed,<br />

effective and discerning ICT<br />

practitioners. You will select from<br />

a wide range of areas, being given<br />

the opportunity to select units to<br />

personalise your own learning to<br />

match your future aspirations.<br />

Your learning will include:<br />

• carrying out PC maintenance<br />

• installing and configuring software<br />

• producing digital graphics and<br />

animations<br />

• website development<br />

• creating computer<br />

programmes/games.<br />

You will also learn key aspects of<br />

the ICT practitioner role, including:<br />

• networks and communications<br />

• graphics and animation<br />

• programming.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />

Four GCSE passes at grade C<br />

including Mathematics or English, or<br />

a Merit in a relevant Level 2 course.<br />

PROGRESSION<br />

Onto higher education or<br />

employment within the industry,<br />

from system or software designer<br />

to technician.<br />

COURSE DURATION<br />

2 years<br />

I.T. PRACTITIONER –<br />

BTEC EXTENDED<br />

DIPLOMA LEVEL 3<br />

THE COURSE<br />

This programme is an optional<br />

extension to the BTEC Diploma in<br />

I.T. Practitioner for students who are<br />

looking to progress to university and<br />

wish to gain additional UCAS points.<br />

You will select from a wide range of<br />

areas, being given the opportunity to<br />

select units to personalise your own<br />

learning to match your future<br />

aspirations.<br />

Your learning will include:<br />

• installing and configuring software<br />

• presenting and communicating<br />

in<strong>form</strong>ation<br />

• identifying and resolving potential<br />

organisational security risks<br />

• producing digital graphics and<br />

animations<br />

• website development<br />

• creating computer<br />

programmes/games.<br />

You will also learn key aspects of<br />

the ICT practitioner role, including:<br />

• in<strong>form</strong>ation systems<br />

• networking, system security and<br />

communications.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />

Five GCSE passes at grade C<br />

including Mathematics or English.<br />

PROGRESSION<br />

On to higher education or<br />

employment in many roles, including<br />

system designer, analyst or software<br />

designer.<br />
