I.T. – BTEC DIPLOMA LEVEL 2
THE COURSE
You will develop your knowledge and
gain an understanding of I.T. and how
it is used in industry and our everyday
lives. You will learn a variety of the
practical aspects of I.T. and about
the I.T. industry itself.
Your learning will include:
• communicating in the I.T. industry
• working in the I.T. industry
• computer systems and software
• setting up an I.T. network
• computer graphics
• developing computer games.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Four GCSE passes at grade D
preferably with Mathematics and
English. A Merit in a relevant
Level 1 course.
PROGRESSION
I.T. is an essential skill for many 21st
century job roles and there are many
exciting employment opportunities
available within the industry itself,
from ICT sector professional to
technicians to system designer and
many more, plus further higher level
learning for professional standards.
COURSE DURATION
1 year
I.T. PRACTITIONERS –
BTEC DIPLOMA LEVEL 3
THE COURSE
You will develop the knowledge and
skills students need to be informed,
effective and discerning ICT
practitioners. You will select from
a wide range of areas, being given
the opportunity to select units to
personalise your own learning to
match your future aspirations.
Your learning will include:
• carrying out PC maintenance
• installing and configuring software
• producing digital graphics and
animations
• website development
• creating computer
programmes/games.
You will also learn key aspects of
the ICT practitioner role, including:
• networks and communications
• graphics and animation
• programming.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Four GCSE passes at grade C
including Mathematics or English, or
a Merit in a relevant Level 2 course.
PROGRESSION
Onto higher education or
employment within the industry,
from system or software designer
to technician.
COURSE DURATION
2 years
I.T. PRACTITIONER –
BTEC EXTENDED
DIPLOMA LEVEL 3
THE COURSE
This programme is an optional
extension to the BTEC Diploma in
I.T. Practitioner for students who are
looking to progress to university and
wish to gain additional UCAS points.
You will select from a wide range of
areas, being given the opportunity to
select units to personalise your own
learning to match your future
aspirations.
Your learning will include:
• installing and configuring software
• presenting and communicating
information
• identifying and resolving potential
organisational security risks
• producing digital graphics and
animations
• website development
• creating computer
programmes/games.
You will also learn key aspects of
the ICT practitioner role, including:
• information systems
• networking, system security and
communications.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Five GCSE passes at grade C
including Mathematics or English.
PROGRESSION
On to higher education or
employment in many roles, including
system designer, analyst or software
designer.
COURSE DURATION
