CHILDREN AND YOUNG<br />
PEOPLE’S WORKFORCE –<br />
CACHE DIPLOMA LEVEL 3<br />
THE COURSE<br />
This is the new, Level 3 qualification<br />
for working with children and young<br />
people. Combining academic with<br />
practical placement in workplace<br />
settings, you will attend college three<br />
days per week and spend two days<br />
in a variety of placements, where you<br />
will be observed working with children<br />
under natural work conditions. You<br />
will have the use of a virtual learning<br />
environment to access resources,<br />
share good practice and complete<br />
online tasks. You will gather together<br />
a portfolio of evidence to complete<br />
the course.<br />
Your learning will include:<br />
• child learning and development<br />
• child welfare and safeguarding<br />
• working with babies and young<br />
children<br />
• home-based childcare<br />
• supporting children with additional<br />
needs<br />
• working with families and parents.<br />
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />
You must have a Cache Level 2<br />
Certificate for the Children and Young<br />
People’s Workforce (QCF) full Level 2<br />
qualification and three GCSE passes<br />
including English or others with written<br />
assessment.<br />
PROGRESSION<br />
You should be able to gain employment<br />
as an early years’ practitioner in a range<br />
of childcare settings. Students may also<br />
progress onto the Sector Endorsed<br />
Foundation Degree in Early Years.<br />

CHILDREN’S PLAY, LEARNING<br />
AND DEVELOPMENT –<br />
BTEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA<br />
LEVEL 3<br />
THE COURSE<br />
This is a new qualification offered at<br />
<strong>Stockton</strong> <strong>Riverside</strong> <strong>College</strong> and will build<br />
and develop the necessary practical skills<br />
and understanding to provide you with<br />
a firm grounding in the principles of<br />
children’s care for progression into<br />
employment or higher level education.<br />
Work experience and links to the<br />
workplace <strong>form</strong> a central part of this,<br />
which is equivalent to three A Levels.<br />
800 hours work experience are required.<br />
Your learning will include:<br />
• opportunities to develop your<br />
research and analytical skills<br />
• a wide range of specialist units,<br />
developed in consultation with<br />
employers<br />
• the essential skills, knowledge and<br />
understanding in children’s play<br />
learning and development.<br />
This can be put with CYPW Diploma<br />
for occupational competence.<br />
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />
Four grade C passes at GCSE,<br />
which must include English and<br />
Mathematics/Science and an<br />
interview with two satisfactory<br />
references. Other qualifications<br />
may be acceptable and will be<br />
dealt with on an individual basis.<br />
PROGRESSION<br />
Most of our students aspire to go to<br />
higher education and have recently<br />
gained places at Northumbria University,<br />
Durham University and Teesside<br />
University to train as primary school<br />
teachers or study early childhood<br />
studies and nursing. Employment<br />
opportunities might be paediatric<br />
nursing, social work, primary teaching<br />
or as an early years’ practitioner.<br />
