SPORT –<br />
BTEC DIPLOMA LEVEL 2<br />
THE COURSE<br />
You will develop your understanding of<br />
various aspects of sport, including<br />
fitness testing and training, sports<br />
coaching, organising events and your<br />
knowledge of the human body. You will<br />
take part in a varied programme of<br />
activities which may also include outdoor<br />
activities. The course is equivalent to<br />
four GCSEs grade A*–E.<br />
Your learning will include:<br />
• fitness testing and training<br />
• anatomy and physiology for sport<br />
• development of personal fitness<br />
• effects of exercise on the body systems<br />
• planning and leading sports activities<br />
• nutrition for sports per<strong>form</strong>ance.<br />
You will also develop your<br />
communication, <strong>application</strong> of number,<br />
I.T. skills and skills in improving your<br />
own learning and per<strong>form</strong>ance.<br />
You may also have the opportunity<br />
to study first aid, coaching awards or<br />
the community sports leader award.<br />
You may wish to participate in<br />
recreational or competitive sport<br />
as part of the college’s enrichment<br />
programme, as well as having the<br />
opportunity to participate in outdoor<br />
activity residentials, for example, the<br />
Mountain Centre in Scotland.<br />
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />
Four D grades at GCSE or an appropriate<br />
Level 1 qualification. An interest in sport<br />
and exercise is essential.<br />
PROGRESSION<br />
On completion of this course, you will be<br />
able to progress to a Level 3 programme<br />
or enter the Leisure and Sport industry.<br />
LOCATION<br />
This course is taught at SRC Bede<br />
Sixth Form campus.<br />
COURSE DURATION<br />
1 year<br />
SPORT PERFORMANCE AND<br />
EXCELLENCE – BTEC EXTENDED<br />
DIPLOMA LEVEL 3<br />
THE COURSE<br />
Your learning will focus on per<strong>form</strong>ance<br />
within a range of sports, with the<br />
opportunity to focus on specific areas<br />
of interest. You will participate in both<br />
theory and practical sessions covering<br />
a range of topics and different<br />
activities. This course is equivalent<br />
to studying three A Levels.<br />
Your learning will include:<br />
• fitness testing for sport and exercise<br />
• psychology for sports per<strong>form</strong>ance<br />
• technical and tactical skills in sport<br />
• sports coaching<br />
• instructing physical activity and exercise<br />
• sports injuries/massage.<br />
You will also continue to develop<br />
your skills in English and Mathematics<br />
and improving your own learning<br />
and per<strong>form</strong>ance. There is also the<br />
opportunity to gain further qualifications<br />
in first aid, coaching awards, fitness<br />
instructing, community sports and<br />
leaders award (CSLA) and participate<br />
in outdoor residentials.<br />
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />
A minimum of four GCSE passes at<br />
grade C or above, including English<br />
and Mathematics or an appropriate<br />
Level 2 qualification.<br />
PROGRESSION<br />
You will be able to progress to higher<br />
education on a Level 4 programme or<br />
enter the leisure, sport and coaching<br />
industry which includes:<br />
• sports coaching/psychology<br />
development<br />
• fitness training/leisure assistant<br />
• outdoor activities instructor.<br />
