ABC AWARD – ENTRY LEVEL<br />
THE COURSE<br />
This course is designed to meet the<br />
needs of all students with learning<br />
difficulties and/or disabilities. It can be<br />
structured to meet individual student<br />
needs, giving the opportunity to<br />
participate in a range of activities to<br />
develop skills, possible progression<br />
into employment, improve qualification<br />
levels and increase independence<br />
though activities such as shopping,<br />
preparing a meal, food hygiene, using<br />
public transport and personal care.<br />
Students will improve or gain<br />
knowledge in literacy and numeracy<br />
skills with an opportunity to gain a<br />
qualification in Life Skills and<br />
undertake Enrichment activities<br />
(art and media, sport and leisure,<br />
ICT, practical skills).<br />
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />
No qualifications or prior knowledge<br />
are needed for entry to the course.<br />
A willingness to learn and to try new<br />
subject areas is necessary.<br />
PROGRESSION<br />
There may also be an opportunity<br />
to progress on to a vocational<br />
programme.<br />

LAND-BASED SKILLS<br />
FOR WORKING LIFE –<br />
ENTRY LEVEL 2 AND 3<br />
THE COURSE<br />
Aimed at learners with learning<br />
difficulties and disabilities aged 16, this<br />
course has a strong practical element,<br />
with one day spent off-site visiting<br />
places such as pet stores, garden<br />
centres, community farms, veterinary<br />
practices and local parks, such as at -<br />
Woodland Park Nature Reserve where<br />
we do conservation-related activities and<br />
<strong>Stockton</strong> Borough Council where we<br />
have poly tunnels and an allotment area.<br />
We also manage a small flower bed<br />
within the college grounds and manage<br />
and maintain an allotment and<br />
conservation area at Nursery Lane,<br />
<strong>Stockton</strong>. The course provides an<br />
excellent grounding for anyone hoping<br />
to work or volunteer in the conservation,<br />
gardening or animal care sectors.<br />
Your learning will include:<br />
• working as part of a group – learners<br />
learn how to work with each other<br />
successfully and demonstrate their<br />
own abilities with the group<br />
• conservation – learners will work within<br />
the community to conserve and care<br />
for their environment<br />
• horticulture – learners will demonstrate<br />
an ability to propagate and grow plants<br />
• health and safety – learners will be able<br />
to follow safety rules and be more<br />
aware of their own safety<br />
• personal manner – learners will<br />
demonstrate appropriate personal<br />
conduct in different situations<br />
• working towards goals – learners will<br />
demonstrate appropriate personal<br />
conduct in different situations.<br />

This course is suitable for learners with<br />
learning difficulties and disabilities.<br />
PROGRESSION<br />
Entry Level 2 can progress<br />
onto Entry Level 3.<br />
