PERFORMING ARTS (ACTING) –
BTEC SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA
LEVEL 3
THE COURSE
This career-focused course is the
equivalent of two A Levels and aims
to offer a professional and ‘hands-on’
experience to prepare you for entry
into the performing arts industry.
You will focus on the practical skills of
the actor through workshops, theory
classes and rehearsal. You will be
encouraged to produce your own
performances, take part in master
classes, participate in educational visits
and create material for showreels and
portfolios to showcase your abilities
and experience. Previous residential
visits have included London, Krakow
and Paris where students have had
the opportunity to meet and work with
actors from theatre, film and television,
agents, directors and other industry
professionals.
Your learning will include:
• performing to an audience
• principles of acting
• devising plays
• film and television acting
• developing movement skills.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Four GCSEs at grade C or above,
BTEC First Diploma in a related subject
or an appropriate Level 2 qualification.
PROGRESSION
Following successful completion of
year one you will normally progress
to a second year of study (Level 3
Diploma). Previous students have
progressed straight into professional
work on a national and international
level, as well as to Teesside University
FdA and BA Hons courses offered
at Stockton Riverside College, other
universities and drama schools in the
UK and USA, and to teacher training
courses.

PERFORMING ARTS (MUSICAL
THEATRE) – BTEC SUBSIDIARY
DIPLOMA LEVEL 3
THE COURSE
This practical, hands-on course
provides an opportunity for you to
gain practical experience in the three
disciplines of dance, drama and music
which you will need to pursue a career
in musical theatre. You will gain the
equivalent of one A Level and will be
given many opportunities to perform
in professional venues and gain vital
and appropriate experience. Students
enjoy many educational and theatre
trips, for example, to London’s West
End and New York’s Broadway.
You learning will include:
• performing to an audience
• musical theatre performance
• jazz dance
• singing skills
• dance performance.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Four GCSEs at grade C or above or
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related
subject.
PROGRESSION
Following successful completion
of one you will normally progress
onto year two (Level 3 Diploma).
Successful students can progress
to higher education at university,
stage school or employment in the
performing arts industry.
Many previous students have
progressed to leading stage schools
such as Arts Educational, Laine
Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre
and many more. Other students have
performed in ‘Chicago’, ‘Billy Elliott’
and ‘We Will Rock You’.

PRODUCTION ARTS (MAKE-UP,
MEDIA AND THEATRICAL) –
BTEC SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA
LEVEL 3
THE COURSE
This course is for you if you want to
gain the qualifications, underpinning
knowledge and practical skills required
to get into this competitive vocational
sector. It is a highly practical course,
which will allow your creative talents to
be developed and nurtured.
Your learning will include:
• production arts workshop
• make-up application skills and
creative uses in performance
• special effects make-up
• period make-up for performing arts
• make-up for performers
• make-up using prosthetics.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will normally need to have at least
one of the following:
• BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in
a related subject
• Level 2 in Cosmetic/Beauty Therapy
• at least four GCSEs at grades A*–C
• appropriate work experience.
PROGRESSION
BTEC Diplomas are highly valued by
employers and universities.
Opportunities include:
• further/higher study
• theatre work
• work in film and television industry
• freelance.
