PERFORMING ARTS (ACTING) –<br />

BTEC SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA<br />

LEVEL 3<br />

THE COURSE<br />

This career-focused course is the<br />

equivalent of two A Levels and aims<br />

to offer a professional and ‘hands-on’<br />

experience to prepare you for entry<br />

into the per<strong>form</strong>ing arts industry.<br />

You will focus on the practical skills of<br />

the actor through workshops, theory<br />

classes and rehearsal. You will be<br />

encouraged to produce your own<br />

per<strong>form</strong>ances, take part in master<br />

classes, participate in educational visits<br />

and create material for showreels and<br />

portfolios to showcase your abilities<br />

and experience. Previous residential<br />

visits have included London, Krakow<br />

and Paris where students have had<br />

the opportunity to meet and work with<br />

actors from theatre, film and television,<br />

agents, directors and other industry<br />

professionals.<br />

Your learning will include:<br />

• per<strong>form</strong>ing to an audience<br />

• principles of acting<br />

• devising plays<br />

• film and television acting<br />

• developing movement skills.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />

Four GCSEs at grade C or above,<br />

BTEC First Diploma in a related subject<br />

or an appropriate Level 2 qualification.<br />

PROGRESSION<br />

Following successful completion of<br />

year one you will normally progress<br />

to a second year of study (Level 3<br />

Diploma). Previous students have<br />

progressed straight into professional<br />

work on a national and international<br />

level, as well as to Teesside University<br />

FdA and BA Hons courses offered<br />

at <strong>Stockton</strong> <strong>Riverside</strong> <strong>College</strong>, other<br />

universities and drama schools in the<br />

UK and USA, and to teacher training<br />

courses.<br />

COURSE DURATION<br />

1 year (with a 1 year top-up)<br />

PERFORMING ARTS (MUSICAL<br />

THEATRE) – BTEC SUBSIDIARY<br />

DIPLOMA LEVEL 3<br />

THE COURSE<br />

This practical, hands-on course<br />

provides an opportunity for you to<br />

gain practical experience in the three<br />

disciplines of dance, drama and music<br />

which you will need to pursue a career<br />

in musical theatre. You will gain the<br />

equivalent of one A Level and will be<br />

given many opportunities to per<strong>form</strong><br />

in professional venues and gain vital<br />

and appropriate experience. Students<br />

enjoy many educational and theatre<br />

trips, for example, to London’s West<br />

End and New York’s Broadway.<br />

You learning will include:<br />

• per<strong>form</strong>ing to an audience<br />

• musical theatre per<strong>form</strong>ance<br />

• jazz dance<br />

• singing skills<br />

• dance per<strong>form</strong>ance.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />

Four GCSEs at grade C or above or<br />

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related<br />

subject.<br />

PROGRESSION<br />

Following successful completion<br />

of one you will normally progress<br />

onto year two (Level 3 Diploma).<br />

Successful students can progress<br />

to higher education at university,<br />

stage school or employment in the<br />

per<strong>form</strong>ing arts industry.<br />

Many previous students have<br />

progressed to leading stage schools<br />

such as Arts Educational, Laine<br />

Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre<br />

and many more. Other students have<br />

per<strong>form</strong>ed in ‘Chicago’, ‘Billy Elliott’<br />

and ‘We Will Rock You’.<br />

COURSE DURATION<br />

1 year (with a 1 year top-up)<br />

PRODUCTION ARTS (MAKE-UP,<br />

MEDIA AND THEATRICAL) –<br />

BTEC SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA<br />

LEVEL 3<br />

THE COURSE<br />

This course is for you if you want to<br />

gain the qualifications, underpinning<br />

knowledge and practical skills required<br />

to get into this competitive vocational<br />

sector. It is a highly practical course,<br />

which will allow your creative talents to<br />

be developed and nurtured.<br />

Your learning will include:<br />

• production arts workshop<br />

• make-up <strong>application</strong> skills and<br />

creative uses in per<strong>form</strong>ance<br />

• special effects make-up<br />

• period make-up for per<strong>form</strong>ing arts<br />

• make-up for per<strong>form</strong>ers<br />

• make-up using prosthetics.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<br />

You will normally need to have at least<br />

one of the following:<br />

• BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in<br />

a related subject<br />

• Level 2 in Cosmetic/Beauty Therapy<br />

• at least four GCSEs at grades A*–C<br />

• appropriate work experience.<br />

PROGRESSION<br />

BTEC Diplomas are highly valued by<br />

employers and universities.<br />

Opportunities include:<br />

• further/higher study<br />

• theatre work<br />

• work in film and television industry<br />

• freelance.<br />
