IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW SACEStaff worked extremely hard to ensure the successful implementation of the new SACE. Students in Year 10undertook the PLP and Stage 1 began for our Year 11s. Staff were involved in significant professionaldevelopment for the New SACE in all Learning Areas and in preparation for the Research Project. A groupof staff volunteered to undertake the Research Project preparation and conducted an intensive two daycourse for Year 11 students after their Semester 2 examinations to ensure a smooth start for them in 2011.Course selection for senior students in 2011 indicated to us that the New SACE had an impact on a numberof subject offerings and Learning Areas. This has led to a rationalisation of subjects available to studentswithin Learning Areas.RE-VISIONING SEAVIEW HIGH SCHOOLThe Governing Council employed Mr Bill Cossey in Term Three to work with staff, students and parents toreview and reinvigorate the school’s Vision, Priorities and Values. As a consequence the school communityhas developed a new Vision, Priorities and Values which is in draft form, to be ratified by the GoverningCouncil in 2011. This draft has been developed using feedback from all areas of the school community.The following is the Draft of the new Vision, Priorities and Values.VisionSeaview High School is committed to preparing students for life beyond school, by providing challengingand enriching learning opportunities and supporting students to achieve their personal best.PrioritiesWe work to:1. Ensure a safe and friendly environment (Wellbeing)2. Develop a deep understanding of all students and to instil a sense of pride in student achievementand success. (Wellbeing, Learning & Culture)3. Develop a challenging and relevant curriculum which meets the future needs of all learners viainnovative and flexible teaching and learning programs (Learning)4. Enrich and celebrate our community’s international and intercultural understandings andopportunities (Learning & Culture)ValuesThe Seaview High School Community’s actions and interactions are based on respect, empathy, resilienceand integrity.Leadership rolesStaff were also involved in a re-visioning of leadership roles within the school. As a result the DeputyPrincipal and Assistant Principal roles were redescribed as follows:Deputy Principal:Assistant Principal:Assistant Principal:Whole school curriculum innovation, International Programs, including CISreaccreditation, co leadership of sub school, quality assurance.Timetable, Daily Operations, Data Management, EDSAS, Oversight of PLP andResearch Project, co-leadership of sub school.VET/FLO/Special Needs, including High Achievers, students on negotiatededucation plans, and aboriginal students.6
Sub School StructureA further development was to establish two Sub Schools encompassing Years 8 to 12 from 2011. Theestablishment of Sub Schools is to develop in students a deeper sense of connection and identity with theschool, enable staff to develop relationships with students in Care Groups within the Sub Schools over afive year period, and facilitate further student co-curricular involvement.Each Sub School will be lead by a Sub School Coordinator who will work with a member of theAdministration Team and the Student Support Services Team to support student learning, behaviourmanagement and wellbeing. Student leadership roles will be expanded and developed to provide authenticstudent voice to the Sub Schools.The 2010 Student Leaders were involved in discussions about the rationale for Sub Schools, and all studentsand staff voted on their preferred names for the Sub Schools. The final selection was Kingston and Pitman,both original house names of Seacombe High School.Areas of the school have been identified as Sub School centres, and will be renamed in 2011.FACILITIES UPGRADESThe facilities at Seaview High School have also been a work in progress over 2010.Building the Education RevolutionThe BER Languages Centre finally began during the July holiday break and was completed late January2011. The Centre will be used by Year 12 Care Groups for the Kingston Sub School, Languages classes andthe Intensive Secondary English Course (ISEC) class for newly arrived international students. Internationalstudents will also be able to access support staff from the Centre. The Centre is wirelessly networked has acomputer suite with ten computers, office space for four staff, a small kitchen facility and four largeclassrooms equipped with SmartBoards. An open area in the middle of the Centre will be used forindividual and small group learning activities and meetings for students.An outdoor learning area was developed in conjunction with the Languages Centre. It is an open space withseating for forty students and space for students to gather informally. Teachers will be able to access thearea for outdoor activities. It is covered by the wireless network, allowing for outdoor work.Trade Training CentresWork has begun on the renovation of parts of the Science and Technology areas to enable the school todeliver curriculum under the Industry Pathways Program. Renovations began during the September breakand are due for completion by the end of Term One 2011.7
