Below NationalBenchmarkOn NationalBenchmarkAbove NationalBenchmarkNumeracy 6.8% 28.8% 64.4%Reading 6.8% 28.2% 65.0%Writing 11.4% 24.6% 54.0%Grammar 6.8% 11.0% 82.2%Spelling 6.8% 10.2% 83.0%A number of our students were either absent or upon parent request withdrawn from the process.Seaview High School’s decision in 2008 to amalgamate Maths, Science and Technology in the middle schoolas an integrated Learning Area and provide only one line of teaching for these three areas, along with theamalgamation of Society & Environment and English so that there could be time in the curriculum to deliverthe one line of extended pastoral care, known then as the personalised learning program, with hindsight,had a significant detrimental impact on achievement in literacy and numeracy. This situation was alteredfor 2010 where two Pastoral Care sessions took place each week and in 2011 there will be one session perweek.Leaders in the school are undertaking an in-depth analysis of the data, and are working to develop clearquestions to interrogate the data in terms of learning and teaching and work towards targetingimprovement across all areas for 2011. Learning Areas have agreed that in 2011 students in Years 8 and 10will sit assessment tasks each semester, based on literacy and numeracy. These tasks will be summativeand will be reported on in student reports at the end of each semester.9
