There are spaciouslounges on each floor. The first floor lounge isequipped with computer projection equipment,a fireplace and an outdoor patio.This hall features 170 beds and en suitebathrooms, with a green design, includinggeothermal heating and cooling systems.Waldo HallIn the residential quad near Blodgett andHarvey HallsThe Health Services Center is located on thenorthwest side of Waldo Hall. Residence Hall InitiativesEXCELEXCEL (Entering students eXcelling through the Contributions ofExperienced Leaders) is a mentoring program that matches firstyearstudents with carefully selected returning students. The mentorswork with residence hall directors and resident assistants to planand implement social and educational programs for first-yearstudents. Past examples include campus tours and informal studysessions during midterms and finals. During the semester, mentorsare available daily for consultation.Green LivingGreen living initiatives are encouraged in all residence halls (lightsensors, water reduction, organic cleaning and hygiene products,etc.) and continue to be developed by students and staff.Honors College SuitesThe Honors College suites are conveniently located on the secondfloor of Earle Hall near the Honors College offices. They providehousing for a small number of the honors students who liveon campus.representative to the Resident Student Association (RSA). The RSA isthe organization that unites all the halls into one larger communityand provides campuswide programming with that goal in mind. Theexecutive board of the RSA is elected from the entire resident studentbody and charged with communicating with the administrationissues of concern to all residential students. The Adelphi Universitychapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) providesrecognition for the top one percent of residential students at Adelphiwho positively impact the Adelphi residential community throughtheir actions and contributions in the residence halls.Residence Hall StaffResidence hall director (RHD): Each of the seven residence halls hasa director who works and lives in the hall, overseeing the hall’sfunction as an educational center for its residents.Resident assistant (RA): Each RHD supervises a staff of residentassistants. These are Adelphi students who help with programplanning. In addition, the RAs are there as informational resources.Hall attendants: These staff members work during events andevenings to monitor guests entering residence halls.Special Housing AccommodationsIntersession: If you need to stay on campus during intersession foran internship or other academic-related purpose, you must presenta University official’s signature to request housing. There is anadditional charge for this housing. Only student-athletes competingin winter season sports, international students and students workingfor the University or taking courses during this time will be permittedto live on campus during intersession break.Summer housing: You can apply for campus housing if you areenrolled in summer classes. There is an additional charge for thishousing. You may have to move into a different room or residencehall.Special housing needs: The Office of Residential Life and Housing iscommitted to meeting the needs of students who require specializedequipment or facilities. If you have an accommodation need, contactthe Office of Disability Support Services at 516.877.3145 or emaildss@adelphi.edu, and complete and return the enclosed ResidenceHall Agreement by May 1, 2014, for priority consideration.Residence Hall LeadershipEach of the seven residence halls elects a Hall Council ExecutiveBoard to represent the residents. These hall councils provide aconduit for hallwide residential issues to be raised to the residencehall director. They also provide programs aimed at promotingcommunity within the hall. The hall councils in turn each send aGet Ready to Move InIf you have questions or concerns about how to get ready for lifeat Adelphi, feel free to get in touch with the residential life andhousing staff. Aside from the basics, how can you cramthe rest of your life into a room? Here is some advice that pastAdelphi students found useful.1. The University won’t hold packages, so if you decide to shipitems to campus, make sure that they arrive after you get toyour residence hall.
