Harley <strong>University</strong> Center, Room 110 • 516.877.3603Freshman Community Action ProgramThe <strong>Adelphi</strong> <strong>University</strong> Freshman Community Action Program (FCAP)provides an opportunity for incoming freshmen to participate in afive-day community service initiative during the week before classesbegin. FCAP is a volunteer program coordinated by the Center for<strong>Student</strong> Involvement.FCAP participants will gain valuable hands-on and stimulatingexperiences through participation. They will also have an earlyintroduction to the <strong>Adelphi</strong> community while bonding with otherincoming freshmen.<strong>Student</strong>s participating in this program will have the opportunity tovolunteer at various locations. The program’s goal is to introducestudents to a variety of community service opportunities. FCAPallows students to work in the community during the day, and thenattend evening activities, such as lectures and topic discussions,that reinforce the day’s community service project. The programincludes a full-day schedule of activities and it is recommended thatparticipants remain on campus inone of the <strong>University</strong> residencehalls, at no cost to the student.The FCAP initiative is held justprior to the beginning of thefall semester. A special mailingwill be sent to your home in thespring, providing details aboutthe program and the applicationprocess.The program is only offered to entering freshmen and an applicationwill be mailed to all deposited students. As the program has a limitednumber of spaces, it is highly recommended that the application becompleted and returned prior to Friday, June 7, 2014.Alternative Break OpportunitiesDuring winter and spring breaks, students have the chance to takepart in unique community service programs. Winter break programsinclude volunteer opportunities while spring break offers studentsthe time increase their awareness of cultural, environmental andsocioeconomic issues during organized activities and involvement.Volunteerism<strong>Adelphi</strong> fosters and promotes a commitment to the communitythrough student participation in walks for the American HeartAssociation, Cancer Society and other service-based organizations,as well as hosting Relay for <strong>Life</strong> on campus.
