Existing <strong>Parks</strong> and Amenities<strong>2020</strong> PARKS & RECREATION MASTER PLANA complete inventory <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Huntersville</strong> facilities was conducted in the fall <strong>of</strong> 2010.This inventory includes leased and joint use facilities. Mecklenburg County owns the majority<strong>of</strong> the land on which town parks are located. The majority <strong>of</strong> the town’s indoor recreation spaceis within local schools. This practice has allowed the <strong>Town</strong> to add much needed indoorrecreation space quickly due to the shared cost to build and operate these facilities. On thefollowing pages are detailed descriptions <strong>of</strong> existing facilities.<strong>Huntersville</strong> <strong>Parks</strong> and <strong>Recreation</strong> Facilities InventoryAbernathy ParkLocation: 205 Glendale DriveApproximate Size: 2 acresAmenities:(21) paved parking spaces(1) Playground(1) Basketball Court(1) Shelter/Restroom Building(1) Lighted S<strong>of</strong>tball FieldDescription: This two acre park is located in the old Anchor Mill community just east <strong>of</strong> therailroad tracks and south <strong>of</strong> Ramah Church Road. This park is completely built out. Parking isstill an issue for games and football practices. No additional development is recommended forthis park.Recent Improvements: In 2010, the town built the new restroom/shelter building. Thedriveway into the park and 14 new paved parking spaces were completed in 2008. A newplayground and expansion <strong>of</strong> the basketball court was completed in 2004.
