UNDEVELOPED PARK LAND<strong>2020</strong> PARKS & RECREATION MASTER PLANGriffin PropertyLocation: Holbrooks Road (about 1 mile east <strong>of</strong> Waymer Park)Approximate Size: 41 acresDescription: This parkland is adjacent to the North Mecklenburg Landfill andwas donated to the <strong>Town</strong>. This land is quite wooded and has many variations inelevation throughout.Recent Improvements: Mountain Bike TrailRecommended Improvements: Develop a park master plan to determine therecreation needs for this land. Potential site for a Par 3 Disc Golf CourseCook and Pennington PropertiesLocation: On Ervin Cook Road just south <strong>of</strong> Charlotte Mecklenburg WaterTreatment <strong>Plan</strong>t and west <strong>of</strong> the Wynfield subdivision.Approximate Size: 191 acresDescription: Three properties make up the 191 acres <strong>of</strong> park land. The Cookfamily has rights to continue farming two <strong>of</strong> the properties that MecklenburgCounty purchased through 2015. The two Cook farm properties add up to 147acres. The northwest parcel <strong>of</strong> land is the Pennington property that is 44 acres.This land was also purchased by Mecklenburg CountyPark <strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> Status: A park master plan should be developed within thenext year for these parcels <strong>of</strong> land.Ranson and Rosedale PropertiesLocation: These two properties are located to the north <strong>of</strong> the Rosedale mixeduse development on Gilead Road. The Ranson property is 13 acres and is locatedto the north <strong>of</strong> the Bi-Lo Grocery store and to the east <strong>of</strong> the Villages <strong>of</strong> Rosedalesubdivision. The Rosedale property is 5 acres and is located to the north <strong>of</strong> theRosedale apartments and to the south <strong>of</strong> Stone Hollow.Approximate Size: 18 acresDescription: These two properties were donated to the <strong>Town</strong> by the developer <strong>of</strong>Rosedale. Mecklenburg County’s Torrence Creek Greenway extension will runthrough these two properties. The County has an additional 50 plus acres adjacentto these properties for the future greenway which will <strong>of</strong>fer the potential for a 68acre linear park surrounded by highly developed mixed use properties.Park <strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> Status: A park master plan should be developed within thenext year for these parcels <strong>of</strong> land.………………………………………………………………………………………………………NOVEMBER 7, 201148
