Continuing Education6.18 In order to keep abreast of the fast changes in the field of medicine, drug therapy andrelated technology, doctors, nurses and pharmacy staff including pharmacists anddispensers must receive continuing education and training to enable them to be competentin providing professional services.6.19Information on drug therapy, methods of administration and the use of intravenousadministration devices, should be made available to all personnel in order to maintaintheir standard of knowledge.It is recommended that continuing education in the form of seminars, workshops andlectures should be organized. Information leaflets, drug bulletins and on-line druginformation, for example via the intranet should be prepared for dissemination toall staff concerned, especially the front-line staff on a regular basis.Audit Programme6.20 The Working Group recommended that local feedback systems should be set up toincrease staff awareness of the risk areas in drug administration procedures and anaudit programme should be established in all hospitals to monitor staff adherence tothese guidelines.6.21 At the corporate level, the HAHO will facilitate the adoption of these guidelines andcontinuously monitor and review their implementation.49
