History - TimelineVisitwww.bunge.com.brFertimportCreated in 1947 as <strong>Bunge</strong>’s logistics arm, Fertimport offersa complete range of support services to foreign trade:maritime brokerage, port operations, port terminals, foreignrepresentation, laytime, management of import and exportprocesses, customs clearing, and e-services.The company has over 200 employees, spreadthroughout 15 units strategically located in themain ports of Brazil and Argentina.In 2007, Fertimport moved over 9 million tons of bulkcargo, recorded 3,000 customs-clearing processes, and soldapproximately 500,000 tons of fertilizers and sulfur. As a maritimebroker, it serviced over 1,500 ships.<strong>Bunge</strong> acquires sugarcane milland ethanol production facility,and makes new partnershipIn 2007, <strong>Bunge</strong> announced the acquisition of Agroindustrial SantaJuliana, a sugar and ethanol producer located in Minas Gerais. Theacquisition gave <strong>Bunge</strong> an entrée into this sector, with good prospectsfor growth over coming years.The acquisition is part of <strong>Bunge</strong>’s strategy to become aglobal player in the sugarcane derivatives market (sugar andethanol). Its products are considered natural extensionsof <strong>Bunge</strong>’s core activity: agribusiness.The plant has a current processing capacity of 1.6 million tons of caneper year. <strong>Bunge</strong> plans to expand thiscapacity over the next few years to 4million tons a year.Another highlight of the year wasthe partnership with Corn ProductsBrazil, a subsidiary of Corn ProductsInternational, one of the largest cornprocessors in the world.Through this agreement, <strong>Bunge</strong>will sell cornstarch and maniocmeal produced by Corn Products,directed at the bread, cookie, anddough industries.
