As a maritimebroker, it serviced over 1,500 ships.Bunge acquires sugarcane milland ethanol production facility,and makes new partnershipIn 2007, Bunge announced the acquisition of Agroindustrial SantaJuliana, a sugar and ethanol producer located in Minas Gerais. Theacquisition gave Bunge an entrée into this sector, with good prospectsfor growth over coming years.The acquisition is part of Bunge’s strategy to become aglobal player in the sugarcane derivatives market (sugar andethanol). Its products are considered natural extensionsof Bunge’s core activity: agribusiness.The plant has a current processing capacity of 1.6 million tons of caneper year. Bunge plans to expand thiscapacity over the next few years to 4million tons a year.Another highlight of the year wasthe partnership with Corn ProductsBrazil, a subsidiary of Corn ProductsInternational, one of the largest cornprocessors in the world.Through this agreement, Bungewill sell cornstarch and maniocmeal produced by Corn Products,directed at the bread, cookie, anddough industries.
