e l a t i o n s h i p sw i t h i n t e r e s t e d g r o u p s<strong>Bunge</strong> puts sustainability on the agenda<strong>Bunge</strong> has played role in discussions about sustainable development in Brazilian society and beyond. It has beena basic guideline for much of <strong>Bunge</strong>’s published material, and the theme for many of the corporate informationcampaigns developed in 2007.A partnership with Editora Abril, Banco Real, and CPFL Energia has contributed to efforts to disseminateinformation about sustainability. The Sustainable Planet, launched in April 2007, is a multifaceted communicationeffort whose goal is to create greater awareness and increase knowledge about sustainability.“<strong>Bunge</strong> and other companies in its sector each can travel further along the sustainability path. But, in parallel, wecan all work to spur the debate and disseminate ideas, creating a public forum for discussions about sustainability,”said Caco de Paula, coordinator of the Sustainable Planet project and director of Editora Abril.The project went beyond its original goals, publishing hundredsof articles in publisher Editora Abril’s periodicals and on a speciallycreated website called www.planetasustentavel.com.br, in additionto carrying out other dissemination activities. The Planet in the Parkevent, which took place in October in Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo,drew thousands of people who came in direct and practical contactwith important sustainability topics, such as inclusion, volunteerism,and recycling. Additionally, the movement promoted the distributionof 2.5 million copies of the Etiquette Manual for a Sustainable Planet,which was inserted into Editora Abril periodicals.In 2008, activities of this type will be expanded to stimulate thedebate on key sustainability-related topics, as is being done indebates on the cost of global warming for Brazil.The <strong>Bunge</strong> Sustainability Workshop, forexample, discussed with farmers how agribusinessand its agents are committed to the principlesof sustainable development.Another networking initiative with the sameaudience is the Brazilian Farmer Award, whichrecognizes farmers who obtain the best sustainabilityresults, covering soy, wheat, and corn crops. In itsfourth version, the prize honored 14 farmers fromBahia, the Federal District, Maranhão, Mato Grosso,Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Piauí, Rio Grande doSul, Santa Catarina, and São Paulo.In the same spirit, the Second <strong>Bunge</strong>Breadmaking Cup, covering bakeries throughoutBrazil, honored professionals in breadmaking, asector of high strategic value for <strong>Bunge</strong>.
