esponsible agricultureAGREEMENTBETWEENPARTNERSIN ORDER TO SUPPLY R AW MATERIALSTO BUNGE, FARMERS MUST MEETENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL L AWSWhen purchasing raw materials from farmers, Bungemakes every effort to promote good farmingpractices on the part of our partners, includingrespect for environmental and labor laws andmaximum efficiency in the use of natural resources. To ensure that all our agricultural suppliers follow appropriateconduct, Bunge uses three principal tools. The first is the organizationof numerous integration events between companies in the Groupand farmers, meetings where Bunge encourages discussions onsustainability, precision farming, and respect for the rights ofworkers and the environment. As well as guiding our partners,Bunge participates in sectoral agreements and commitments suchas the National Pact for the Eradication of Slave Labor in Brazil andthe Amazon Soy Moratorium (for details on the Moratorium see the“Preservation of Biomes” section). Finally, suppliers found in violationof these practices, for example by using forced labor and violatingenvironmental laws, have their fertilizer purchasing and supplyagreements with Bunge rescinded, as provided in the contracts.“Companies with a wide reach such as Bunge, that takeinitiatives like these, serve as an example in the market so that othercompanies may adopt the same control procedures in their ownproduction chains,” says Flávio Gandara, Professor in the BiologicalSciences Department of the “Luiz de Queiroz” College (EscolaSuperior) of Agriculture (Esalq), University of São Paulo (USP).
