Council <strong>in</strong>itiativeprovides homesfor possumsNest<strong>in</strong>g boxes for possums will be<strong>in</strong>stalled <strong>in</strong> the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burnside</strong>'surban reserves under a new <strong>in</strong>itiativeby the Council <strong>in</strong> a bid to reduce thethreat <strong>of</strong> endangerment.Around 50 boxes have been built s<strong>of</strong>ar by participants <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burnside</strong>Council's Men's Shed Program, with anumber also be<strong>in</strong>g donated to localenvironmental protection group F<strong>au</strong>naCare and Rescue.The r<strong>in</strong>gtail and brush tail possumsare found <strong>in</strong> the Adelaide Hills as wellas many <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burnside</strong>’s bush land,parks and backyards.Boxes have already been <strong>in</strong>stalled atfour locations with high biodiversity <strong>in</strong>Waterfall Gully, Stonyfell, Auldana andKens<strong>in</strong>gton Gardens.Council’s Conservation and Land Management Team with a possum nest<strong>in</strong>g boxJapanese Dolls come to South Australia75 traditional handcrafted Japanesedolls were on display at the <strong>Burnside</strong>Civic Centre dur<strong>in</strong>g July as part <strong>of</strong> theDolls <strong>of</strong> Japan Exhibition.The collection <strong>of</strong> dolls, drawn fromacross the world, represent a part <strong>of</strong>everyday life <strong>in</strong> Japan s<strong>in</strong>ce ancienttimes.It was the first time South Australiawas <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> the national tour<strong>in</strong>gexhibition, which encourages arts andcultural exchange between Australiaand Japan.The Library also hosted a Japanesecultural day to co<strong>in</strong>cide with theexhibition which featured music,dance and enterta<strong>in</strong>ment.Visitors also enjoyed brows<strong>in</strong>g theLibrary's Japanese collection, which isthe largest <strong>in</strong> South Australia.
