For information on what’shappened at Council and Committeemeetings visit www.burnside.sa.gov.auNext Council and Committee meetingTuesday, 21 September 2010 at 6 pmat the Civic Centre.Next Development Assessment PanelmeetingTuesday, 7 September 2010 at 6:30pm at the Civic Centre.Next Audit Committee meetingTuesday, 5 October 2010 at 6:30 pm inthe Mayor's parlour.Creek successMichael Perry Reserve on SecondCreek, located in Stonyfell, has beenthe scene of some extensiveconstruction work over the past twoyears.Fountain flows at Town HallIt's a tranquil scene outside the City ofBurnside's Town Hall with the fountainonce again flowing, following a threeyear closure due to water restrictions.After Council inspections and servicingof the mechanical and electricalequipment, modifications were madeto the pond enabling it to operate with63% less water.Burnside youth showcase their talentsSeven local bands took to the stageshowcasing their musical talents in theninth annual Burnside Battle of theBands competition.The fountain, a welcoming andrelaxing feature, now operates withonly 10,000 litres of water, 17,000litres less than before.The fountain is filled using bore waterand will operate between 8 am and 5pm on business days and be turnedoff when the weather forecast is formore than 35 degrees.the 2010 title winning the top prize often free music lessons at the AIMMSSchool of Rock and five hours ofrecording time.The $400,000 project, assisted by a$50,000 grant from the Adelaide andMount Lofty Ranges NaturalResources Board, ensures the existingreserve infrastructure is protected fromerosion and downstream properties areprotected from flooding.Five rock ramps have been installedand native vegetation planted topreserve and enhance pleasant vistasand create a visually attractivewatercourse habitat.The rock structures have beenspecially designed to allow anendangered local fish, the MountainGalaxia, to migrate up and downstream. The rock was donated byBoral Quarries.Held on 2 July at the BurnsideBallroom, the bands battled it out infront of a crowd of over 250 people.Judged on presentation, musicianship,music and crowd interaction by threeindustry professionals from the AIMMSSchool of Rock, each of the bandsentertained the crowd in 30 minute sets.Lipsmack, with their outstanding chicmelodic rock performance, took outFunded by the City of Burnside andcoordinated by Burnside YouthVolunteers, the event aims to promotethe abilities of youth and provide themthe opportunity to share their talentswith the community.Applications for the 2011 Battle of theBands competition will be opening soon.Keep your eye out for details onwww.burnside.sa.gov.au6
