No. 192 <strong>of</strong> 2002, signed by theMinister for Public Enterprise on 8 May 2002.(2.12) CybercrimeJELR• Transposition <strong>of</strong> the Council <strong>of</strong> Europe Convention on CybercrimeUpdateThe Council <strong>of</strong> Europe Convention on Cybercrime was signed in February 2002 by theMinister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.Legislation enabling ratification <strong>of</strong> the Convention is currently being considered in thecontext <strong>of</strong> a Criminal Justice Miscellaneous Provisions Bill.The <strong>Department</strong> is also leading Ireland's contribution to the development <strong>of</strong> a new EUframework decision on 'Attacks against Information Systems', discussions on whichcommenced in June 2002.(2.13) Illegal and harmful uses <strong>of</strong> the internetJELR• Extension <strong>of</strong> the scope <strong>of</strong> Irish research, by the Internet Advisory Board (IAB) oninternet safety issues relating to parents and children• Implementation <strong>of</strong> an awareness road-shows by the IAB on Internet safety issues inrelation to parents and childrenUpdateA reporting procedure has been put in place with the industry's representativeassociation, the Internet Service Providers' Association <strong>of</strong> Ireland (ISPAI).The IAB organised a successful workshop between the Internet industry and the Gardaíin June which identified issues <strong>of</strong> mutual concern.Proposals to extend the scope <strong>of</strong> Irish research on internet safety issues are underdiscussion and a tender competition will be held shortly. The IAB's annual report willbe published shortly.Proposals for awareness projects include a roadshow, a further radio campaign, a postercampaign and information packs.12
