EXTENDAIRE SYSTEMINSTRUCTIONS FOR USEGENERAL INFORMATIONTwo air masks equipped with an ExtendAire System canshare a common air supply during emergency escape.Users can couple the Firehawk Second Stage Regulatorfrom one user to the intermediate pressure manifold of theother user. Both users will receive intermediate pressureair from the donor's first stage regulator and cylinder. Theduration of the remaining air supply will be reduced by atleast half. The SCBA is approved by NIOSH without inter-connectingtwo users to one apparatus. NIOSH does not certify“buddy breathers”. Therefore, the attachment of thereceiver's regulator to the donor's apparatus voids theNIOSH approval for both air masks.Air Hose: When used as a combination apparatus, thedevice shall be supplied with respirable air through airsupply hose with a minimum length of 8 feet and maximumlength of 300 feet within the pressure range of 85-90psi. A maximum of 12 sections of straight or uncoiled airsupply hose may be used in making up the workinglength of hose. When using coiled hose, a maximum ofsix sections may be used and each section is consideredto be 50 feet long. Hose sections vary from 8 feet to 100feet lengths. The air-line connection to the apparatus is tobe made through approved quick-disconnects only. Thepurity of the air supply is the responsibility of the user. Therespirator is approved only when the air supplied meetsthe requirements of the Compressed Gas AssociationSpecification G-7. 1989 quality verification level (Grade) Dfor Gaseous Air.Use this emergency escape breathing system for lifethreatening emergencies and simulated training exercisesonly. All other adequate means of escape mustbe considered before using this device.• During use the air supply, and consequently theservice time, is reduced approximately in half. Before connecting two users make sure the airsupply is sufficient for both users to escape; otherwisedo not use the system.• DO NOT use the system if the donor's audiblealarm is ringing.• The NIOSH Approval for both apparatus are voidwhen this device is used, due to the difficulty inmaneuvering during escape. Exercise extreme carewhile connected together. Mobility and range ofmotion will be limited when donor's and receiver'sair masks are connected.• Maintain slack in the air lines during maneuveringand while connected together. DO NOT pull on thehoses. Pulling on the rescue hose or the intermediatepressure hose could separate hoses from fittingsresulting in air leaks. If the above measures cannot be followed or to providegreater escape protection, use the Quick-FillSystem. It maintains approval while transfilling anddoes not exhibit the above hazards.DO NOT use the Quick-Fill ® System, URC Assembly, orExtendAire System accessories if there is any possibilitythat the environment contains a CBRN warfareagent. These air mask accessories are not approvedfor use in atmospheres containing CBRN warfareagents. Failure to follow this warning can result inserious personal injury or death.EMERGENCY ESCAPE BREATHING SYSTEM:INSTRUCTIONS FOR USEThe ExtendAire System uses Snap-Tite quick-disconnects.The Snap-Tite quick-disconnect has two significant features.1. It is single action to connect. The coupler is pushedfirmly over the plug to engage.2. It is a locking type that requires two actions to disconnect.a. Push the two sides of the quick-disconnect towardseach other. (The plug should advance into the couplerend approximately 1/8".)b. Slide the coupler’s outer sleeve away from the plug.Pull the plug out of the coupler. Ensure that thequick-disconnect plug on the manifold block is protectedby the dust cap.DO NOT install or attempt to use any hose assemblyor fitting other than those supplied by MSA for theExtendAire System. Failure to follow this warning canresult in serious personal injury or death.PREPARATION FOR USEBEFORE ENTERING A TOXIC ATMOSPHERE1. Don the apparatus as described in the donning section.2. Ensure proper engagement of the Snap-Tite quick-disconnectcoupling on the intermediate pressure hose(at the manifold tee).41 TAL 806 (L) Rev. 3 - 10082858
