As soon as HighCourt was over in Septembermy wife Janet and I were outon the road, meeting <strong>Foresters</strong> fromaround the country, and since then it’sbeen non stop.There have been so many events wehave attended so far that to mentionthem all would take up the whole ofMiscellany. But particular highlightsinclude attending the re-dedicationservice of the <strong>Foresters</strong> War Memorialplaque on the Isle of Wight (you canread more about <strong>this</strong> on page 18) andthe numerous Christmas luncheonsand parties to which Janet and I wereso kindly invited.Thank you to all the branches for theirwonderful hospitality and for welcomingus so warmly. They are what makes<strong>Foresters</strong> unique, and it’s so importantthat we keep on supporting them.Fundraising for the Multiple Sclerosis<strong>Society</strong> is going well, with more than£13,000 already raised. Activities in thepipeline include an art competition forchildren (see the panel to the right), andmy charity dinner on17th April at theBritannia Hotelin Nottingham,for whichtickets are stillavailable. AndI’m taking partin a 150-milecharity bike ridefrom Workingtonto Sunderland withCallingall young artists!Do you know any young oneswith an eye for art? SoThe Cake Break is on30th April – put thedate in your diary!why not spoil yourself with a nice cake as well – andraise money for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) <strong>Society</strong> atthe same time.The MS <strong>Society</strong>’s Cake Break is taking place on 30thApril, and it wants you to host your own Cake Break on<strong>this</strong> day too, sharing tea and cake with friends and family.You can request your free Cake Break pack, whichalso includes delicious recipes from the Hairy Bikers(pictured above), by calling 0870 241 3565 or visitingwww.mssociety.org.uk/cakebreak (please quoteor select <strong>Foresters</strong> <strong>Friendly</strong> <strong>Society</strong>when registering). Packs will be sentout in early March. Happy fundraising!Application forHigh Sub-Chief RangerThe positions of High Chief Ranger and High Sub-ChiefRanger are open to any member of the <strong>Society</strong>. Theseroles are presidential in nature and elected annually.To apply, members must fill in an application formand complete a short statement explaining why theywant the role, what they can contribute to the <strong>Society</strong>and their background with <strong>Foresters</strong>.The role of the High Sub-Chief Ranger is to offersupport to the High Chief Ranger in their year of office,and to prepare for the following year when they standfor election to become High Chief Ranger themselves.Application packs are available to download from thewebsite or from the Court helpdesk (0845 634 4480).Completed applications must be submitted to theCompany Secretary by 4th June 2010, after approvalthrough your own Court AGM.It’s expected that the Nominations Committeewill conduct informal interviews at the end of Juneor in early July.
