UNSW Cricket Club Annual ReportFirst Grade ReportFIRST GRADE REPORT1 st Grade Team – Round 14 v ManlyStanding (L‐R): Warren Smith (Coach), Peter Richardson (Manager) Sam Crichton, Richard Nikolovski,Blake Dean, Timm Van Der Gugten, Ryan Medley, James McNeil, Alan Reid (Scorer).Seated (L‐R): Cameron Stewart, Mitchell Gowland, Tim Lang (c), Murray Creed, Stuart McKayLooking back on the season that was it was most definitely a rebuilding season in first grade. However there are some seriously exciting times ahead for the Bumblebee’s first grade side.We were in games right up to our necks but we just failed to win the big moments in matches. Wehad eventual premiers St George on toast at Hurstville Oval but through lack of experience and matchawareness we let them back into the contest. I’m sure this is something all the young players in theteam have taken away from the season ‐ “… never give a sucker an even break and don’t leave it upto the next person.” I’m sure that if we all stick together and with plenty of hard work we can be topsix contenders in the seasons to come.Youngsters like Mitchell Gowland, Blake Dean, Timm Van Der Gugten and Sam Crichton have thecricket world at their feet. The raw talent these lads showed is something all involved at the clubmust be thrilled about. I’m sure with plenty of hunger and hard work these boys have the potential togo the next step.A special mention must go to Murray Creed. ‘The Panther’ had another massive year with the battopping the Sydney first grade batting with 941 runs at 55.35 including four hundreds. What a playerMuzz has been for the club over the past five seasons. His skill, toughness and will to win is second tonone. He is sure to go down a one of the best cricketers in UNSWCC history. Great stuff mate.I can’t wait for the 2009/10 season to kick off. The club has some really exciting times to look forwardto. I’m really pumped for a big year of winning cricket games with the UNSW Bumblebees!Mitchell Gowland ‐ Gowlo’s 99 against Gordon in the last game of the season showed just how goodthis bloke can be with the bat. Looking forward to Mitch’s development in the coming seasons. ThisSeason 2008/2009 Page 27
