All of theseplayers are valuable assests to the club, and we need to ensure they are utilized. It will be the role ofthe recruitment co‐ordinator to set up programs for junior development for the coming season, andrepeat the junior skills day in 2009.CricHit was run again in 2008, by UWCC player and committee member Kate Owen, and was themost successful season so far for the UWCC program. Thank you to UNSW for the use of thegrounds, and to Kate Owen for her tireless efforts in keeping the girls on track. It is hoped that thesegirls will continue to move forward in their development and compete in the Sydney Rivers GirlsCompetition in the 2009/10 season.Twilight12s succeeded again in 2008/09. Thank you to Erica Meyer for organising and co‐ordinatingthe competition. We are hopefull it will continue this year as it exposes women to the game of cricket, and provides a fun social activity for the players. As for inter‐club matters, the weekly newsletter proved very effective this year and is an initiative thatwill be continued next season. The responsibility for doing this will fall under the communication andpublicity committee members, Sarah Brennan and Susan Daniel. UWCC would like to apologise tothose who may have missed emails or messages during the season, and will ensure this does nothappen in the future. We would like to thank all UWCC players for continually turning up to training and matches eachweek. In particular our second grade side, with special mention Vic Rawlings, Kailey Bogan, CathyMurphy, Claire Hodgkinson, Bernice Ngo, Emma Vickers, and combined grade players TaylaSeymour, Fraser Wunsch, Ellie Bath and Alex Vaughan. Thank you all for your commitment anddedication. UWCC has recognised the need for improvement in our second grade side, and aredetermined to change the clubʹs focus to second grade and junior development. Thank you for all your help at trainings and matches, inparticular with the 2nd grade side, and your daughters aspirations in the game of cricket. The Womenʹs World Cup was held in NSW in March of 2009. This year UWCC had two Australianrepresentative players, Alex Blackwell and Lisa Sthalekar. Australia finished fourth overall, whileEngland pipped New Zealand in the final to hold the trophy once more. Cricket AustraliaAmbassadors Kate Blackwell and Alex Blackwell ensured the message got out to the public and theWorld Cup proved a success with the crowds. Hopefully womenʹs cricket in Australia, and inparticular Sydney, will continue to expand on the back of this success. The 2008/09 season saw a transition in the administration of the club. The club presidency role wasvacated and Lizzy Farrell took a well earned break from the role of Secretary. She was replaced in thisrole by Sara Hungerford for the season.Unfortunately the transition wasnʹt as smooth as anticipated. On several occassions, correspondencewith both the university sport organizations and the Sydney Womenʹs Cricket Association wasoverlooked or not adequately dealt with. This can be attributed to inexperience in the new role asPage 80 Season 2008/2009
UNSW Cricket Club Annual ReportUWCC Reportwell as failure to hand over pre‐existing tasks. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to Sydney University Cricket Club, UNSWCricket Club, Sydney Womenʹs Cricket Association and both university sports associations, SUSF andUNSWSR, for the poor communication this season, and have instituted measures to ensure this wonʹthappen for the upcoming season. Sara Hungerford has been allocated as the committee memberresponsible for liaising with all affliated bodies, and will attend meetings with incoming secretaryLizzy Farrell.Issues likely to impact on our club in the following season is the introduction of the player pointssystem, as well as the likely entry of ACT into the Womenʹs National Cricket League andrequirements on club members to play cricket there. It is important that we stay abreast of all changesby attending SCA meetings regularly, and continue to recruit players from the universities, schoolsand community.Thank you to the UNSW and Sydney University groundsmen for providing quality grounds fortrainings and matches, we are proud to call the grounds of UNSW and Sydney University home.Thankyou also to both mens clubs, Michelle Nancarrow, and Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness, HelenBryson, and UNSW Sport and Recreation, Paul Taylor and the Sydney Womenʹs Cricket Association, for your continued support of UWCC, as well as your patience and assistance during a particularlydifficult transition period in our club. Finally thankyou to Erica Meyer, Alex Blackwell, Kate Blackwell and Lizzy Farrell for taking on ahuge administrative role at the back end of the season.
