Anchiphiloscia Stebbing, 1908<br />

Family: Philosciidae.<br />

Type species: Anchiphiloscia karongae Stebbing,<br />

1908 (designated by Ferrara & Taiti<br />

1986b).<br />

Locality: Tanzania: Kambwe, near Karonga, on<br />

decaying wood close to swamp (2 � and 4 �,<br />

leg. W. A. Cunnington, 27.vi.1904, BMNH<br />

1909:5:1:15-19 and slides BMNH 1919:5: 1:20-<br />

25, syntypes).<br />

Synonyms: Setaphora Budde-Lund, 1908b; Afrophiloscia<br />

Taiti & Ferrara, 1980.<br />

Species: 18 (Ferrara & Taiti 1986b).<br />

Distribution: Eastern Africa, Madagascar, Andaman<br />

Islands, Chagos Archipelago.<br />

Remarks: Stebbing (1908) described 2 new species,<br />

but did not select one as type species.<br />

Barnard (1932) considered Anchiphiloscia<br />

to be a synonym <strong>of</strong> Setaphora Budde-Lund,<br />

1908 b. Ferrara & Taiti (1986b) pointed out<br />

<strong>the</strong> reasons why Anchiphiloscia has priority<br />

over Setaphora. They transferred Anchiphiloscia<br />

cunningtoni Stebbing, 1908 to <strong>the</strong> genus<br />

Aphiloscia and referred to Anchiphiloscia<br />

C. SCHMIDT & A. LEISTIKOW<br />

karongae as type species <strong>of</strong> Anchiphiloscia.<br />

This mention is here regarded as designation<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> type species, according to ICZN Art.<br />

69.1.1.<br />

Andenoniscus Verhoeff, 1941b<br />

Family: Philosciidae.<br />

Type species: Andenoniscus silvaticus Verhoeff,<br />

1941b (m).<br />

Locality: Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Peru: Aina, Sivia (types lost,<br />

except for a few slides with appendages, in<br />

ZSM).<br />

Species: 2.<br />

Distribution: Peru, Panama.<br />

Remarks: The species narcissi Vandel, 1968 and<br />

tropicalis Vandel, 1968 were transferred to<br />

Erophiloscia by Vandel (1972a). Leistikow<br />

(1998c) redescribed <strong>the</strong> type species and declared<br />

<strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r 2 species as nomina dubia.<br />

Leistikow (1999b) described a second species<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> genus.<br />

Andricophiloscia Vandel, 1973<br />

Family: Philosciidae.<br />

Type species: Andricophiloscia melanesiensis<br />

Vandel, 1973 (o, m).<br />

Locality: Eastern New Guinea: Japen Island, in<br />

Geelvinck Gulf: Sarawandori, on S coast <strong>of</strong><br />

island, W <strong>of</strong> Seroei, 1°52’S, 136°12’E, under<br />

stones on beach (leg. van der Hammen or<br />

Holthuis, 24.ii.1955).<br />

Androdeloscia Leistikow, 1999a<br />

Family: Philosciidae.<br />

Type species: Chaetophiloscia hamigera Vandel,<br />

1952 (o).<br />

Localities: Venezuela, Los Guyabitos (1 �, leg. G.<br />

Marcuzzi, 22.x.1950); Santa Lucia (1 �, leg. G.<br />

Marcuzzi, ii.1949); Rancho Grande (14 �, 18 �,<br />

leg. G. Marcuzzi, ii.1949-iii.1950). All specimens<br />

in MNHN.<br />

Distribution: Tropical America.<br />

Remarks: Leistikow (1999a) included 15 species,<br />

and Leistikow (2000b) added fur<strong>the</strong>r 2 species.<br />

Type species: Itea rosea C. L. Koch, 1838 (designated<br />

by Gruner 1966).
