Hydropower Development<br />

Programme<br />

In addition to the new agreement for Phase<br />

III of the institutional cooperation, a new<br />

second programme was initiated in <strong>2008</strong><br />

with a budget of NOK 15 million over three<br />

years. The programme will give support to<br />

the Government of Bhutan’s Accelerated<br />

Hydropower Development Programme through<br />

the following key activities:<br />

Project Finance and Power Sales Agreements<br />

Reconnaissance surveys for remaining<br />

listed hydropower project sites under the<br />

Power System Master Plan<br />

Prefeasibility Studies of project sites<br />

including Environmental Studies<br />

Detailed Project <strong>Report</strong> and Environmental<br />

Study of one hydropower project site<br />

Much of the available budget is expected to<br />

be used to finance the reconnaissance surveys<br />

and prefeasibility study of hydropower sites<br />

which will be carried out by the Department<br />

of Energy with external consultants under<br />

the assistance of <strong>NVE</strong>.<br />

The Detailed Project <strong>Report</strong> and Environmental<br />

Study of one project will be done as part of a<br />

planned two year extension of the programme<br />
