Beyond Bicentennial welcomes whole <strong>to</strong>wn<br />
Press Release By Daniel Schemer<br />
The Town <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fairhaven</strong> wants its<br />
residents and workers linked in<strong>to</strong><br />
local issues, current affairs and urban<br />
planning by attending its Community-<br />
Building and Visioning Forum on<br />
Sunday, November 4, from 1:00PM –<br />
4:00PM, at Town Hall.<br />
“We are putting on <strong>the</strong> Forum <strong>to</strong><br />
take some time <strong>to</strong> come <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r as a<br />
community <strong>to</strong> think about Fair -<br />
haven’s future,” said Deirdre Healy,<br />
Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Fairhaven</strong> Sustaina -<br />
bility Committee (FSC).<br />
The Forum is part <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fairhaven</strong>’s<br />
“Beyond <strong>the</strong> Bicentennial” campaign,<br />
a season-long collaboration between<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>Fairhaven</strong> Bicentennial Committee<br />
and FSC, meant <strong>to</strong> bolster public<br />
involve ment in civic affairs.<br />
The mission behind Beyond <strong>the</strong><br />
Bicentennial is <strong>to</strong> encapsulate what<br />
<strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fairhaven</strong> want for <strong>the</strong><br />
future <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>wn. Riding on coattails<br />
<strong>of</strong> success from this past summer’s<br />
Bicentennial celebration, both com -<br />
mit tees came <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>to</strong> contem -<br />
plate what <strong>to</strong> do next.<br />
“The synergy between The Bicen -<br />
ten nial Committee and <strong>Fairhaven</strong><br />
sustainability committee thought this<br />
would be an ideal time <strong>to</strong> come<br />
<strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r and think about ‘Beyond <strong>the</strong><br />
Bicentennial,’” said Mrs. Healy.<br />
The Community-Building and<br />
Vision ing Forum will be a heavily<br />
participa<strong>to</strong>ry assembly with round<br />
table dialogue and brains<strong>to</strong>rming on<br />

more <strong>to</strong>wn events, proposals <strong>to</strong> help<br />
a small business economy, expanding<br />
arts programs, better preserving<br />
cultural and his<strong>to</strong>rical points, etc.<br />
In addition, <strong>the</strong> Forum is also<br />
about recognizing <strong>Fairhaven</strong>’s assets<br />
and strengths and how <strong>to</strong> incorporate<br />
<strong>the</strong>m in<strong>to</strong> a long-term strategic plan<br />
securing <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>wn’s health and<br />
prosperity.<br />
Once all <strong>the</strong> primary issues are<br />
identified, action groups will be<br />
formed <strong>to</strong> organize solutions.<br />
“We hope <strong>to</strong> establish connections<br />
and generate positive energy around<br />
<strong>the</strong> harnessing <strong>of</strong> ideas,” explained<br />
Mrs. Healy.<br />
A pr<strong>of</strong>essional Facilita<strong>to</strong>r will be<br />
present <strong>to</strong> open up <strong>the</strong> Forum, initiate<br />
dialogue, keep attendees on track<br />
with <strong>the</strong> allotted time, convey<br />
information effectively between<br />
groups, and meet <strong>the</strong> overall goal <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> event.<br />
All fall Beyond <strong>the</strong> Bicentennial has<br />
been spreading word <strong>of</strong> this Forum<br />
through this season’s <strong>Fairhaven</strong><br />
Farmers’ Market, utilizing social and<br />
environmental <strong>the</strong>mes, such as<br />
recycling, renewable energy, public<br />
health, and transportation, <strong>to</strong> meet<br />
people and incite interest. Promo -<br />
