Beyond Bicentennial welcomes whole town
Press Release By Daniel Schemer
The Town of Fairhaven wants its
residents and workers linked into
local issues, current affairs and urban
planning by attending its Community-
Building and Visioning Forum on
Sunday, November 4, from 1:00PM –
4:00PM, at Town Hall.
“We are putting on the Forum to
take some time to come together as a
community to think about Fair -
haven’s future,” said Deirdre Healy,
Director of the Fairhaven Sustaina -
bility Committee (FSC).
The Forum is part of Fairhaven’s
“Beyond the Bicentennial” campaign,
a season-long collaboration between
the Fairhaven Bicentennial Committee
and FSC, meant to bolster public
involve ment in civic affairs.
The mission behind Beyond the
Bicentennial is to encapsulate what
the people of Fairhaven want for the
future of the town. Riding on coattails
of success from this past summer’s
Bicentennial celebration, both com -
mit tees came together to contem -
plate what to do next.
“The synergy between The Bicen -
ten nial Committee and Fairhaven
sustainability committee thought this
would be an ideal time to come
together and think about ‘Beyond the
Bicentennial,’” said Mrs. Healy.
The Community-Building and
Vision ing Forum will be a heavily
participatory assembly with round
table dialogue and brainstorming on
as many topics as possible. Examples
are increased recycling and anti-litter
campaigns, utilizing public spaces for
more town events, proposals to help
a small business economy, expanding
arts programs, better preserving
cultural and historical points, etc.
In addition, the Forum is also
about recognizing Fairhaven’s assets
and strengths and how to incorporate
them into a long-term strategic plan
securing the town’s health and
prosperity.
Once all the primary issues are
identified, action groups will be
formed to organize solutions.
“We hope to establish connections
and generate positive energy around
the harnessing of ideas,” explained
Mrs. Healy.
A professional Facilitator will be
present to open up the Forum, initiate
dialogue, keep attendees on track
with the allotted time, convey
information effectively between
groups, and meet the overall goal of
the event.
All fall Beyond the Bicentennial has
been spreading word of this Forum
through this season’s Fairhaven
Farmers’ Market, utilizing social and
environmental themes, such as
recycling, renewable energy, public
health, and transportation, to meet
people and incite interest. Promo -
tions also include green lawn
