Harlem Wizards<br />

T<strong>here</strong> will be some basketball<br />

wizardry on display as <strong>the</strong> Harlem<br />

Wizards hit <strong>the</strong> hardwood for a<br />

charity fundraiser basketball game at<br />

<strong>the</strong> Old Rochester Regional High<br />

School gymnasium on Monday,<br />

November 5. The game is being<br />

organized by <strong>the</strong> Village PTA <strong>of</strong><br />

Wareham <strong>to</strong> raise money <strong>to</strong> benefit<br />

students at <strong>the</strong> Minot Forest and East<br />

Wareham schools. Darien Fernandez,<br />

a Wareham High School Varsity<br />

basketball player who had been<br />

featured on ESPN’s <strong>to</strong>p plays <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

day, has agreed <strong>to</strong> play on <strong>the</strong><br />

Wareham Warriors team against <strong>the</strong><br />

Harlem Wizards.<br />

The game is slated <strong>to</strong> tip <strong>of</strong>f at 7<br />

p.m., with <strong>the</strong> doors opening at 6:30<br />

p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and<br />

senior citizens, and $12 for adults in<br />

advance, and $12 and $14 at <strong>the</strong> door.<br />

For over 50 years, <strong>the</strong> Harlem<br />

Wizards have been combining<br />

amazing basketball talent with<br />

hilarious comedy. The athleticism,<br />

tricks, fancy teamwork and ballhandling<br />

wizardry, plus wild dunks<br />

not even seen in NBA games, engages<br />

and wows <strong>the</strong> most avid hoops fans<br />

but provides a memorable night <strong>of</strong><br />

entertainment even for those rare few<br />

who don’t enjoy <strong>the</strong> game <strong>of</strong><br />

basketball. Whe<strong>the</strong>r you come for <strong>the</strong><br />

competition or you come for <strong>the</strong><br />

comedy, t<strong>here</strong>’s something for every -<br />

one at a Wizards game. Plus, <strong>the</strong> game<br />

will feature non-s<strong>to</strong>p interaction<br />

between <strong>the</strong> Wizards and <strong>the</strong> crowd,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> players will stay until every<br />

last au<strong>to</strong>graph is signed.<br />

The Wizards will square <strong>of</strong>f against<br />

<strong>the</strong> “Wareham Warriors,” comprised<br />

<strong>of</strong> teachers, students and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

notable personalities from <strong>the</strong><br />

Gateway. The team will feature<br />

Wareham High School basketball<br />

coach and ORR Middle School<br />

principal Kevin Brogioli; gym<br />

teachers from Wareham elementary<br />

and middle schools – Deanna Semple,<br />

Chris Phenix, and Chris Perry; coach<br />

Megan Kashner, Ms. Remillard from<br />

Minot Forest, and many more!<br />

Humane Soc Gala<br />

The Humane Society and Shelter<br />

SouthCoast 10th Annual Gala on<br />

Saturday November 3 celebrates<br />

over 100 years and ano<strong>the</strong>r success -<br />

ful year <strong>of</strong> caring for homeless and<br />

helpless animals.<br />

Guests will enjoy dancing under<br />

<strong>the</strong> tent <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> delightful music <strong>of</strong><br />

Butch McCarthy band. The caterer<br />

will be Russell Morin Fine catering <strong>of</strong><br />

Attleboro and <strong>the</strong> cocktails from CV<br />

Variety will make sure all guest’s<br />

essentials are met. As in <strong>the</strong> past <strong>the</strong><br />

event <strong>of</strong>fers sponsorship opportuni -<br />

ties and <strong>the</strong> Committee is looking for<br />

silent auction items. The silent<br />

auction begins at 6:00 pm<br />

restaurants, day sails and more. The<br />

The Shelter continues <strong>to</strong> provide<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional care for abandoned and<br />

stray animals, adoptions, and<br />

advocate for humane treatment <strong>of</strong><br />

animals. The Shelter <strong>of</strong>fers adoptions<br />

for cats and dogs, boarding for dogs,<br />

training classes, and grooming. The<br />

building is handicapped accessible.<br />

A number <strong>of</strong> programs are<br />

available <strong>to</strong> help cities and <strong>to</strong>wns<br />

become more energy efficient in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

buildings, street lights, vehicles and<br />

public works operations. In 2011,<br />

approximately 90 municipalities<br />

worked with Mass Save <strong>to</strong><br />

collectively reduce enough energy <strong>to</strong><br />

power <strong>the</strong> equivalent <strong>of</strong> 3,500 homes<br />

and enough natural gas <strong>to</strong> heat more<br />

than 400 homes.<br />
