F.A.M.E. Says Thanks The members of the The Fairhaven Association for Music Education (F.A.M.E.) would like to thank the community for supporting the concession stand at all four home football games this fall. This tremendous response will allow F.A.M.E. to continue providing music scholarships and other support for the town of Fairhaven’s active music department. F.A.M.E. continues to meet on the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Hastings Middle School cafeteria and all are welcome. Plans are currently being made for visibility at the Fairhaven town hall shops in December and all of the wonderful school holiday programs, the 6th Annual F.A.M.E. Coffeehouse on January 25, 2013 and the Super Sub Sale on February 3, 2013. F.A.M.E. is always looking for new ideas, members, and sponsors. Food Drive Northeast Maritime Institute, 32 Washington Street, Fairhaven, is collecting canned goods and nonperishables for local food pantries. Old Time DL Set The deadline for submitting listings for the Old-Time Holiday weekend is November 3. Record Hop for Vets Join the fun on Sat., 11/3, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., at the VFW in Fair - haven, 109 Middle St., for a Record Hop Fund-raiser to benefit veterans. Save Livesey Park Looking for Vendors On Saturday November 10th there will be a family fundraising event at Livesey Park. All proceeds will go to cleaning up and restoring the skatepark as well as other parts of the park. This project was started by a group of 8th grade Hastings Middle School students. We are looking for vendors who would like to come for the day and sell food, drinks and merchandise. The event will run from 11am-4pm on Saturday, Nov. 10. There will be planned contests, games, bouncy houses and much more for families to enjoy. This event is open to the public and free to attend. With almost a month to go, you’ve got plenty of time to train for the 5K, and to prep your bag of canned goods and non-perishables to donate on Thanksgiving morning! The Fairhaven Turkey Trot for Health and Hunger 5K run/walk will be held on Thankgsgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, starting at 8am, at Cushman Park track. Caregiver Night Out On Nov. 7, Coastline Elderly Services will host two guest speakers for their annual Caregiver Night Out. The event will be held at the Keith Middle School auditorium in New Bedford from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Bob Unger, Editor-in-Chief of The Standard-Times, and author Tim Brookes will speak about their experi - ences caring for their aging parents, and take questions from the audience. Also, on November 7, you can dinein or takeout from Fay’s Restaurant in Dartmouth all day long and Coastline’s Caregiver Program will receive 20% of your bill. Tickets are free and open to the public, but donations are always appreciated to help provide care givers with muchneeded medical supplies. Free respite services and transportation can be provided upon request. Volunteers Needed It’s fall and we are ready to harvest a whole crop of new volunteers. The Ombudsman Program at Coastline Elderly Services needs volunteers who want to make a difference in someone’s life. An ombudsman visits local nursing homes just a few hours a month to ensure elderly residents are happy and safe in their nursing homes. Training is provided. Play Probes Holocaust Issues The Holocaust’s calamity and heartbreak come alive in Your Theatre, Inc.’s production of Peter Sagal’s gripping two-act play “Denial.” Directed by Stephen R. Kay, prominent award-winning actor and director in Southeastern New England, “Denial” will run Thursday through Saturday evenings Nov. 8-10 and 15-17 at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees Nov. 11 and 18 at 2:30 p.m. In clashing intellects and wills Abby Gersten, a tenacious Jewish civil liberties attorney, defends a HAPPENINGS OVERTOWN right-wing Holocaust disbeliever against a young, committed Jewish Federal prosecutor while trying to prove that truth and justice may occasionally be incompatible. All performances will be at the Your Theatre, Inc. Performance Complex which is wheelchair and handicap accessible at St. Martin's Church, 136 Rivet St. at County St., New Bedford. Parking is free in the church lot on County St. For non-subscribers, ticket prices are $15.00 for all performances. Discounts are available for senior citizens, students, and military personnel. Women’s Hlth Fair The Greater New Bedford (GNB) Community Health Center will host a Women’s Health Fair on Thursday, November 8, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the GNB Community Health Center, located at 874 Purchase Street in New Bedford. The event will coincide with AHA! night in downtown New Bedford. Women are invited to attend this free event during which event partner, Southcoast Health System, will provide a host of educational and prevention programs, including free screenings and vaccines. Free kids activities will include face painting and a visit with clowns. Light refreshments will be served. This free event is open to the public. Registration is not required. Recital & Christmas Bazaar At 3 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 4, recitalist, Dr. David Chalmers will perform a program of French Romantic music on St. Anthony’s majestic pipe organ for the Music at St. Anthony’s Concert Series. A freewill donation will be collected during the recital and there is an opportunity to support the organ fund with the ongoing “Adopt an Organ Part” program. St. Anthony’s Christmas Bazaar takes place November 3 and 4. Lunch is available prior to the recital in the church hall, and while meeting with the organist, light refreshments can be enjoyed after the concert. Ocean Explorers, 2-5 Beginning on Nov. 5, the Ocean Explorium will host a “Young Ocean Explorers” activity program on Monday mornings, from 10:30–noon. If there are children in your life who make you stop at the grocery store’s lobster tank so they can watch these fascinating creatures, this program is for you! If they are at an age when all they seem to ask is “Why?,” we have the answer for you! The new “Young Ocean Explorers” activity program welcomes inquisi - tive pre-schoolers, 2–5 years of age, with stories, crafts, and songs. The youngsters will also learn about a different “Featured Creature” each week. A “Young Ocean Explorers” punch pass, good for two children for six admissions, can be purchased for $35; $3 per additional child.
