I used to gethidden “love” messages from him written in small letterson the board in the conference room of CCU; whiledistributing medications to my patients I used to getcandies and chocolate! I metSamar in the first week, or maybe on the first day, of thefirst semester of our first year at AUB; we shared a fewcourses and friends. We became inseparable but not yetlovers. Thus we spent almost all our undergraduate life atAUB together but not “together.” In 1995 I decided thatit was the right moment for our “friendly” relationship tobecome more serious; Samar went along with the idea fora few months then she confessed that she could not adjustto the notion of me as a lover instead of her close friend,Dhabi and when I returned to Lebanon for my summervacation in 1999 our friend suggested that I talk to Samar, something I used to refuse to do. I agreed. We met again, talked, and fell in love. I proposed and in less than ayear, we married and moved to Abu Dhabi. In 2004, wereturned to Lebanon to continue our love story and raiseour angels, Karim (eight years) and Lynn (three years),for their future AUB successes and love stories. In August2011, we will celebrate our 11th anniversary as two headson one pillow; or is it our 20th anniversary as two heartsin one soul? Thank God for Samar, Thank God for AUB.”Mohamad Omran (BBA ’97)Suzana Mitri (BA ’98)I used to get hidden “love”messages from him written insmall letters on the board in theconference room of CCU.so we broke up. I was completely devastated, but I foundrefuge in AUB; I started running every day at the GreenField, around the campus and outside on the Corniche, come rain or shine. I dropped about 30 kilos in less thana year. For two more years Samar and I did not talk butI heard her news from a mutual friend. We were also very different. She was short and I was tall. She listened to love songsand I listened to rock. She was risk averse and I wasn’tat all. She was a Greek Orthodox Christian and I was aSunni Muslim.“But, every time I spoke to her, I wanted to quicklyfinish my sentence so I could hear her voice. I lovedher eyes when they narrowed as if to say, ‘I know you’rejoking!’ and when they widened every time she wasexcited to tell me something.“Her character was like no other. All she wanted todo was to help others.
