Here is a summary of their decisions <strong>and</strong>actions:• Jim Murdock, <strong>SCUP</strong> secretary-treasurer provideda financial overview <strong>and</strong> presented the FY08–09operating budget <strong>for</strong> the board’s approval. Thefinancial statements <strong>and</strong> budget will be reported inthe <strong>SCUP</strong> Annual Report to Members, which will bepublished in October.• Leslie Louden, vice chair of the <strong>SCUP</strong> MembershipCommittee <strong>and</strong> chair of the <strong>SCUP</strong> VolunteerismTask Force, reported on the task <strong>for</strong>ce’s final list ofrecommendations to improve <strong>member</strong>s’ volunteerexperiences. The recommendations include providingvolunteers with job descriptions with clearly definedexpectations <strong>and</strong> time requirements, the need <strong>for</strong>orientation or training <strong>for</strong> certain positions, <strong>and</strong> theneed <strong>for</strong> a recognition program. The board then askedthe <strong>SCUP</strong> staff to review the recommendations <strong>and</strong>report in October on how to implement them.• The board approved a request by the <strong>SCUP</strong>Membership Committee <strong>for</strong> a new institutional groupto serve professionals working <strong>for</strong> federal, state, <strong>and</strong>local governments, foundations, accrediting agencies,non-profits <strong>and</strong> not-<strong>for</strong>-profits. “Group G” will beavailable October 1.• The board approved a request by the <strong>SCUP</strong> AwardsCommittee <strong>for</strong> a new bestowed award, titled “<strong>SCUP</strong>Award <strong>for</strong> Institutional Innovation <strong>and</strong> Integration.”Nominees will be required to include, among othercriteria, an external endorsement such as a letter ofrecommendation from an outside institution. Theaward will be given in July 2009.• Jaime Garrido reported on the activities of the <strong>SCUP</strong>Nominations <strong>and</strong> Elections Task Force, which seeksto find ways to identify <strong>and</strong> develop future volunteerleaders <strong>for</strong> <strong>SCUP</strong>.• The board approved an eight percent increase in dues<strong>for</strong> July 2009 <strong>for</strong> most <strong>member</strong>ship categories exceptstudent <strong>and</strong> retirees.• Alex Roe reported on the activities of the <strong>SCUP</strong>Volunteer Recognition Task Force.• A task <strong>for</strong>ce was <strong>for</strong>med to examine <strong>SCUP</strong>’s role in<strong>SCUP</strong> Member News 7 August 2008
