As mentionedbefore, He is eternally joyful, and His transcendentalpastimes are not different from Him. Because He isthe Absolute Truth, His name, fame, form, qualitiesand pastimes are all identical with Him. His pastimes,therefore, cannot be equated with the sufferings ofhumanity as the so-called sviimi contends. Thepastimes of the Supreme Lord are transcendental tothe actual miseries and sufferings of human beings.The sufferings of humanity are caused by themisuse of the discriminative power or the littleindependence which is given to individual souls.The fraudulent sviimis or mental speculators, in orderto remain consistent with the theory of monism,must pass off the miseries of mankind as the pastimesof God, but actually these miseries are onlythe enforced punishments of Maya devi inflictedupon the misguided conditioned souls.As living entities, we are part and parcel of theSupreme Lord. Indeed, we actually belong to Hissuperior energy. As such, we may join His transcendentalpastimes in our unconditioned state of life,but as long as we are conditioned by the laws ofkarma, in contact with the inferior energy, oursufferings are our own creations, born of a grossmisuse of our little independence. The impersonalistmonists only misguide people by contending thatthe threefold miseries are a part of the Lord's pas-

Such impersonalists and monists have misguidedtheir followers because they incorrectly thinkthat the Supreme Lord and the individual souls areequal in all respects. True, the individual souls areequal in quality with the Supreme Lord, hut not inquantity. If the individual soul were quantitativelyequal to the Supreme Lord, he would have· neverbeen subjected to the laws of material nature.Material nature is subordinate to the will of theSupreme Lord, and therefore He cannot be subjectedto the laws of material nature. It is contradictoryfor the Lord to be subjected to the laws of His owninferior energy.matta{t paratararh nan yatkiiicid asti dhanaiijayamayi sarvam idarh protarhsiitre mari-gara iva"0 conquerer of wealth (Arjuna), there is no truthsuperior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearlsare strung on a thread."
