However,the addition of cements to watercauses the pH to rise <strong>and</strong> maythere<strong>for</strong>e be toxic to aquatic life insome circumstances. <strong>YTONG</strong>-<strong>fix</strong>P is soluble in water. <strong>YTONG</strong>-<strong>fix</strong> Pcauses no long-term e<strong>co</strong>logicalproblem, it is slowly biodegradable.Disposal <strong>co</strong>nsiderationsDispose of surplus material <strong>and</strong>packaging via authorised waste<strong>co</strong>ntractor in ac<strong>co</strong>rdance with localauthority regulations. What you should knowThis <strong>data</strong> <strong>sheet</strong> does not <strong>co</strong>nstituteor serve as a substitute <strong>for</strong>the user’s own assessment of therisks of using this product in theworkplace. It is the purchaser’sresponsibility to ensure that thedate given in this <strong>sheet</strong> is broughtto the attention of anyone intheir employ who are to h<strong>and</strong>leor use this product. The advicegiven herein applies only whenthe product is used <strong>for</strong> the statedapplication.Construction (design <strong>and</strong> management)regulations:The following in<strong>for</strong>mation isprovided to assist clients, designers,planning supervisors <strong>and</strong><strong>co</strong>ntractors in the discharge oftheir respective duties under theConstruction (Design <strong>and</strong> Management)Regulations 1994.For the purposes of <strong>for</strong>mulatingthe <strong>Health</strong> <strong>and</strong> Safety Plan or File,it should be noted that the productis described as <strong>YTONG</strong>-<strong>fix</strong> P (<strong>thin</strong><strong>joint</strong> mortar).<strong>YTONG</strong>-<strong>fix</strong> P (packed in 25 kg bags)is delivered to site by road vehicles,<strong>for</strong> which suitable access <strong>and</strong>egress should be available. Wheresuch access <strong>and</strong> egress is notavailable, deliveries will be madeto the nearest available suitablelocation, subject to agreement withthe client.Storage: <strong>YTONG</strong>-<strong>fix</strong> P bags may bestacked on suitable hard <strong>and</strong> levelsurfaces to a maximum height of2 bags. If bags are palletised theyshould not be stacked more than 2pallets high. Consideration shouldalso be given to the h<strong>and</strong>ling equipmentto be employed on site asto its suitability <strong>for</strong> the terrain <strong>and</strong>its <strong>safety</strong> limits in respect of load.H<strong>and</strong> operated pallet trucks aregenerally not suitable unless palletsspecific <strong>for</strong> this purpose areemployed <strong>and</strong> loads do not exceedthe limits of the pallet truck or itsoperator(s) in h<strong>and</strong>ling the load.Care should be taken whenopening packs that are wrappedor b<strong>and</strong>ed, to ensure that itemsdo not fall or otherwise endangerpersons h<strong>and</strong>ling or near them. All<strong>YTONG</strong>-<strong>fix</strong> P bags are polythenelined <strong>and</strong> are either <strong>co</strong>ded or dated,<strong>and</strong> the <strong>YTONG</strong>-<strong>fix</strong> P should beused wi<strong>thin</strong> 6 months of the date ofmanufacture. All waste packagingmaterials should be disposed of inac<strong>co</strong>rdance with local regulations.H<strong>and</strong>ling: <strong>YTONG</strong>-<strong>fix</strong> P bags shouldbe h<strong>and</strong>led in ac<strong>co</strong>rdance with theManual H<strong>and</strong>ling Regulations 1992(as amended). This <strong>co</strong>ncludes thatthere is a high risk of injury to individualsrepetitively h<strong>and</strong>ling loadsin excess of 25 kg manually. Whereindividuals are required to repetitivelymanually h<strong>and</strong>le loads of 25kg or more, mechanical h<strong>and</strong>lingequipment should be employed toreduce risk of injury. Considerationshould also be given to the h<strong>and</strong>lingequipment to be employed(see Storage above).All persons are reminded that asuitable <strong>and</strong> sufficient assessmentof risks must be made of all tasksto be carried out in ac<strong>co</strong>rdancewith the relevant Statutory <strong>and</strong>Regulatory requirements.
