th<strong>at</strong> civil engineers plan and construct<br />

buildings, bridges and dams is evident<br />

for <strong>the</strong> world to see. Just as important,<br />

however, are <strong>the</strong> “unseen” results of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

work, for example our supply and disposal<br />

systems for w<strong>at</strong>er and waste. Due to<br />

structural changes in <strong>the</strong> field, new tasks<br />

for civil engineers have recently arisen.<br />

Besides <strong>the</strong> core business of planning<br />

and building, civil engineers are taking<br />

more and more responsibility for <strong>the</strong> full<br />

life cycle of buildings and facilities. This<br />

means th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong>y are also increasingly<br />

active in <strong>the</strong> areas of project development,<br />

financing and facility management.<br />

With its orient<strong>at</strong>ion toward <strong>the</strong> basics<br />

of <strong>the</strong> classic areas of construction oper<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

construction engineering, traffic<br />

systems and w<strong>at</strong>er and waste engineering,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Civil Engineering Bachelors<br />

Degree Programme meets <strong>the</strong> current<br />

requirements of <strong>the</strong> job market and<br />

offers gradu<strong>at</strong>es gre<strong>at</strong> opportunities for<br />

beginning <strong>the</strong>ir careers in a field which is<br />

once again experiencing high demand. In<br />

addition to this basic knowledge, practical<br />

aspects such as in-company training and<br />

field trips, as well as topic-specific immersions<br />

in one of <strong>the</strong> four specialis<strong>at</strong>ions of<br />

civil engineering are part of <strong>the</strong> course<br />

of study. The goal of <strong>the</strong> programme is<br />

th<strong>at</strong>, given an existing situ<strong>at</strong>ion, students<br />

can identify <strong>the</strong> need for optimis<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

and can put practical solutions into place,<br />

taking into consider<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>the</strong> technical and<br />

economic parameters.<br />

The civil engineers of <strong>the</strong> future<br />

will find a wide field of activity in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

bACHelorS deGree ProGrAmmeS<br />

profession. These can be fo<strong>und</strong> in<br />

construction firms, consulting offices,<br />

oper<strong>at</strong>ing companies for buildings of all<br />

kinds, in priv<strong>at</strong>e and municipal sanit<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

authorities, n<strong>at</strong>ional and municipal authorities,<br />

as well as associ<strong>at</strong>ions and public<br />

advocacy groups. The basic practical<br />

abilities learned in this programme make<br />

possible direct particip<strong>at</strong>ion in technical<br />

projects, as well as starting <strong>the</strong> subsequent<br />

masters degree programme.<br />

After more than ten difficult years,<br />

<strong>the</strong> future of <strong>the</strong> construction industry is<br />

looking brighter. Those who begin <strong>the</strong> Civil<br />

Engineering Course of Study now will have<br />

very good chances, toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> few<br />

recent gradu<strong>at</strong>es, to find civil engineering<br />

positions awaiting <strong>the</strong>m upon gradu<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Civil engineering with practical training<br />

semester<br />

It is also possible, during <strong>the</strong> advanced<br />

period of study, to choose a practical training<br />

semester. In this case, <strong>the</strong> standard<br />

period of study consists of seven r<strong>at</strong>her<br />

than six semesters, with <strong>the</strong> practical<br />

training taking place in <strong>the</strong> fifth semester.<br />
