Permission to study<br />

Before your arrival in <strong>the</strong> Federal<br />

Republic of Germany, you should already<br />

have g<strong>at</strong>hered inform<strong>at</strong>ion about wh<strong>at</strong><br />

you will need. We especially recommend<br />

th<strong>at</strong> you inform yourself about whe<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Visas<br />

Before traveling to <strong>the</strong> Federal Republic<br />

of Germany, you must apply for ei<strong>the</strong>r<br />

a Prospective Student Visa or a Student<br />

Visa <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> German Ministry of Foreign<br />

Affairs branch (embassy) in your country.<br />

It is not possible to convert a tourist or<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r sort of visa to a student visa once<br />

you are in Germany.<br />

residence permit<br />

If you come to study for a semester<br />

or longer in Germany, <strong>the</strong> German<br />

authorities assume th<strong>at</strong> your stay will<br />

be temporary. Because of this, you will<br />

be given a Limited Residence Permit and<br />

not a Permanent Residence Permit. You<br />

should apply for a Limited Residence<br />
