biotechnology is one of today’s most<br />
modern and innov<strong>at</strong>ive disciplines. In<br />
biotechnology, classical biology and technology<br />
are united. Biological principles<br />
and mechanisms are applied and implemented<br />
using an engineering approach<br />
in order to cre<strong>at</strong>e new products. Biotechnology<br />
is well-established in many areas,<br />
ranging from life-saving insulin for diabetics<br />
to so called “functional food”.<br />
The curriculum covers all areas of<br />
modern biotechnology. Microbiology,<br />
gene technology, plant biotechnology,<br />
environmental biotechnology, cell culture<br />
technology and biochemical engineering,<br />
are just a few core disciplines you can<br />
engage in <strong>the</strong>oretically as well as practically<br />
using our extensive labor<strong>at</strong>ories.<br />
In addition to <strong>the</strong> basic framework of<br />
n<strong>at</strong>ural scientific technology which serves<br />
as an essential basis, <strong>the</strong> diversity of<br />
this programme of study offers students<br />
competence in additional areas of<br />
biotechnology. Proficiency in <strong>the</strong>se areas<br />
is <strong>the</strong> sine qua non for success.<br />
Rapid progress in <strong>the</strong> area of molecular<br />
and cell biology over <strong>the</strong> past 20<br />
years has opened up more and more<br />
innov<strong>at</strong>ive and exciting industrial applic<strong>at</strong>ions<br />
and cre<strong>at</strong>ed new jobs. Gradu<strong>at</strong>es<br />
of <strong>the</strong> Biotechnology Degree Programme<br />
find work in an occup<strong>at</strong>ional area comprising<br />
life sciences in <strong>the</strong> broadest sense,<br />
including biotechnology and microbiology<br />
companies, and <strong>the</strong> chemical, cosmetics,<br />
pharmaceutical and food industries.<br />
Oper<strong>at</strong>ional areas also include agricultural<br />

technology, research facilities, universities<br />
and universities of applied sciences,<br />
public authorities dealing with food<br />
control, environmental agencies, and<br />

in production, development, technical<br />
distribution, in manufacturing, as well as<br />
