Siegfried Broghammer, Tornos’ specialist (center) with Otto Weber (left) and Paul Beck, head of production (right) during a factory tour.lot from his staff, but leads the way by always settinga good example himself. Whenever time is at a premium, the boss can be found working in productionat the weekend. In-time orders also present a particularchallenge here. If the drawing arrives in the morning, production starts the same day and the orderedparts are delivered within an extremely short timeframe. To facilitate this process, the company alsoinstalled its own tool manufacturing in order to beeven more flexible in its response to new demands. The company’s focus on quality is also reflected inthe production hall. It is light and spacious, with theautomatic lathes neatly grouped into productionunits. The Tornos single-spindle automatic lathes arenaturally a highlight. Due in particular to its intelligentcontrol system, they offer advantages which at presentcannot be achieved by any other manufacturer. In addition, they are extremely accurate and, as youwould expect from a Swiss manufacturer, provide theright quality and availability.new machines were therefore acquired as well asequipment and options for automation. What OttoWeber values about Tornos is that the machinesalready possess a good many of these options andhave been inherently designed for process-reliable,automated operation. Through the collaboration withTornos and his modern machinery, Otto Weber seeshimself as ideally prepared for the future.Prepared for the futureOtto Weber was not able to fully escape the economiccrisis but, unlike other companies, it left nolasting effects on his business. As a true family company,Otto Weber and his wife are aware of theirresponsibility to their staff. As one of the last companiesremaining, they implemented short-time workingin the Heuberg region and, together with thestaff, endeavoured to maintain all jobs. As a result, they have emerged from the crisis stronger and wereable to return to full-time working straight away. The enormous pricing pressure for turned parts hashowever lead to serious reflection. Otto Weber isnow investing even more than previously in technologyand automation. The machines must run24 hours a day.
