<strong>Nurs<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Care</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dyspnea</strong>: <strong>The</strong> <strong>6th</strong> <strong>Vital</strong> <strong>Sign</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Individuals</strong> <strong>with</strong> Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)Process For Update/Review <strong>of</strong> Guidel<strong>in</strong>e<strong>The</strong> Registered Nurses’ Association <strong>of</strong> Ontario proposes to update this best practice guidel<strong>in</strong>eas follows:1. Each nurs<strong>in</strong>g best practice guidel<strong>in</strong>e will be reviewed by a team <strong>of</strong> specialists (Review Team) <strong>in</strong> thetopic area every three years follow<strong>in</strong>g the last set <strong>of</strong> revisions.2. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the three-year period between development and revision, RNAO <strong>Nurs<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Best PracticeGuidel<strong>in</strong>es program staff will regularly monitor for relevant new literature <strong>in</strong> the subject area.3. Based on the results <strong>of</strong> the monitor, program staff will recommend an earlier revision period.Appropriate consultation <strong>with</strong> a team <strong>of</strong> members comprised <strong>of</strong> orig<strong>in</strong>al panel members and otherspecialists <strong>in</strong> the field will help <strong>in</strong>form the decision to review and revise the guidel<strong>in</strong>e earlier thanthe three-year milestone.4. Three months prior to the three year-review milestone, the program staff will commence theplann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> the review process by:a. Invit<strong>in</strong>g specialists <strong>in</strong> the field to participate <strong>in</strong> the Review team. <strong>The</strong> Review Team will becomprised <strong>of</strong> members from the orig<strong>in</strong>al panel as well as other recommended specialists.b. Compil<strong>in</strong>g feedback received, questions encountered dur<strong>in</strong>g the dissem<strong>in</strong>ation phase as well asother comments and experiences <strong>of</strong> implementation sites.c. Compil<strong>in</strong>g new cl<strong>in</strong>ical practice guidel<strong>in</strong>es <strong>in</strong> the field, systematic reviews, meta-analysispapers, technical reviews, randomized controlled trial research, and other relevant literature.d. Develop<strong>in</strong>g a detailed work plan <strong>with</strong> target dates and deliverables.<strong>The</strong> revised guidel<strong>in</strong>e will undergo dissem<strong>in</strong>ation based on established structures and processes.54
