ORDINARY COUNCIL MINUTES – 26 MAY 2010 - 6 -Page 3Item – 8.0 Announcements by the ChairTo be added after panel direction “in relation to the breach of regulations”.The motion was put forward and declared.7/0 Carried8.0 ANNOUNCEMENTS BY THE CHAIRNIL9.0 PRESIDENT’S REPORTPR 101As most people will now be aware, Kelvin Matthews, resigned from the position ofChief Executive Office (CEO) on the 7 May 2010, following protracted negotiations inrelation to his contract of employment. With regard to some of the rumours currentlycirculating in the community, I confirm that although Mr Matthews initially soughtsubstantial demands in relation to a release from his contract, he did not ultimatelyreceive a payout from the Council.The Council will now commence a recruitment process to secure the services of asuitably qualified and experienced replacement CEO. In the meantime, Mr PeterTiggemann, will continue to act as CEO.As advised last month, a submission has been made to the National Landscapesprogram for the inclusion of Shark Bay to Ningaloo as one of only 15 destinations inAustralia which will become a prime tourism attraction, especially for overseasvisitors. The Council will be addressed by Bruce Leaver, Chairperson of the NationalLandscapes Reference Group, at the May meeting to appraise councillors of thisimportant proposal which, if accepted, has the potential to provide long-termeconomic benefits to all local businesses.On the 9 May 2010, a tourism strategy meeting was held between local tourism andbusiness operators, representatives from the Shire and Council and Vince Catania,Member for the North West, to explore avenues in which tourism can be expanded inShark Bay. The meeting was attended by about 30 people, from as far afield as theBillabong Roadhouse. The various suggestions are listed in the May Council agendapapers. There was overwhelming support for the employment of a tourism andmarketing manager who has the ability to promote and market the area acrossAustralia and overseas.
