Cancer is the second most common cause <strong>of</strong> death in the Westernworld (after heart disease). The development <strong>of</strong> a homeopathic remedy derivedfrom cancerous tissue is attributed to two British homeopaths, Dr. Compton Burnettand Dr. Clarke, who first proved the remedy in the late 19th century. Its uses havewidened considerably following work by Dr. D. M. Foubister <strong>of</strong> the Royal LondonHomeopathic Hospital and research published by the US homeopath Dr. J. Shore in1989. Such children typicallysuppress their emotions, dislike beingcriticized or scolded, and are easily <strong>of</strong>fended.During puberty they may find it difficult tocontain their sexual feelings. As adults, theytend to be passionate, and <strong>of</strong>ten becomeworkaholics, continually pushing themselvesto the limit. They may have a great desire fortravel and excitement. Their yearning for deepfulfilment may lead to exhaustion and illness.People who benefit most from the remedymay have a strong craving for fatty foods,especially butter and chocolate. Physicalsymptoms may be positively or negativelyaffected by being at the seaside. These peoplegenerally feel better for dancing or whenlistening to music. Their symptoms may berelieved by lying with the knees drawn up tothe elbows.Carcinosin may be prescribed for those whohave a personal or family history <strong>of</strong> cancer,diabetes, or tuberculosis. In some cases theremedy may even be used in the treatment <strong>of</strong>the actual diseases. The remedy also has anaffinity with those who have a history <strong>of</strong>emotional stress, or who are recovering fromchronic fatigue syndrome or mononucleosis.Chronic fatigue syndromeSYMPTOMS Weakness and exhaustion,associated with tenderness in the muscles.This is <strong>of</strong>ten accompanied by dizziness,numbness, and nausea. Frequent colds andrecurrent acute illnesses are commoncharacteristic traits. There may be depressionand a loss <strong>of</strong> concentration. This conditionmay arise following a bout <strong>of</strong> mononucleosis.Symptoms better For short naps; in theevening; at the seaside; for lying with the kneesdrawn up to the elbows.Symptoms worse For physical exertion; fordamp, clammy surroundings; for undressing.InsomniaSYMPTOMS Chronic inability to sleep soundly,especially if the pattern has been apparentsince childhood. This insomnia is particularlyassociated with prolonged periods <strong>of</strong>emotional stress, with some form <strong>of</strong> rejection<strong>of</strong>ten the root cause <strong>of</strong> the problem.
