The remedy,derived from a “nosode” (see page 20) of the infection itself, was proved byDr. Swan and published in Allen’s Materia Medica of Nosodes (1880–90).Bacteriumcalled Neisseriagonorrhoeaetransmits infectionGONORRHEA Transmitted via sexual contact,this infection invades the reproductive systemand can cause sterility if left untreated.REMEDY PROFILEMedorrhinum is best suited to people who feelhurried and anxious, yet simultaneouslyisolated and empty, in a dreamlike, detachedstate. They are passionate and experience lifeto the limit. Behavioral extremes are notuncommon, ranging from a withdrawn,aesthetically sensitive state to an egotistical,selfish one.Physical symptoms typically center onmucous membranes, which are prone toinfection. Symptoms are generally betterfor a discharge of mucus, for sea air, and inthe evening. In damp weather, and between3 a.m. and 4 a.m., they tend to worsen.A thirst for cold drinks and cravings for meat,fish, salt, sweets, and unripe foods arecommon, as is an aversion to “slimy” foodssuch as eggplant or oysters.Medorrhinum is prescribed for infectionsof the urinary tract, reproductive system,genitals, and respiratory tract. It is alsoa remedy for asthma, and may be especiallyeffective for those who have a personalor family history of gonorrhea or earlyheart disease.Urinary-tract infectionsSYMPTOMS Sharp, burning pain on urinating,perhaps with a yellow, pus-filled discharge orblood in the urine (indicative of nonspecificurethritis), or with a frequent urge to urinate,if cystitis is the cause. In severe cases, kidneyinfections such as renal colic may follow. Inmen, if accompanied by pain in the abdomen,lower back, rectum, or testicles, fever, anda urinal discharge, symptoms may be dueto prostatitis (see right).Symptoms better For kneeling on all fours;for lying on the abdomen; in the evening.Symptoms worse For hot weather; for passingurine; for movement.Women’s healthSYMPTOMS Profuse, foul-smelling menstrualflow, and an acrid, thick vaginal dischargewith a fishy odor. There may berhinitis, with postnasal drip (mucus thatdrips down the back of the throat) andfrequent sneezing. Pressure and achingin the sinuses may develop into sinusitis.Asthma may occur, and is typically betterfor lying on the abdomen and sticking outthe tongue.
